Fable rating points to a possible September or October launch before GTA 6 arrives

Fable may still be on track for 2026, and new age ratings from South Korea and Australia suggest Playground Games could be aiming for a late September or October release window. The ratings do not confirm an exact date, but they are a useful sign that the game is moving closer to launch, especially after recent concerns that the RPG could slip into 2027.

This is connected to the earlier story about Playground Games repeating that Fable is still coming later this year, but it is not the same update. The previous report focused on the studio’s recruitment post. This one adds new evidence through official ratings and gives a clearer idea of when the game could launch.

The ratings suggest Microsoft may want Fable out before Grand Theft Auto 6

The South Korean rating describes Fable as an open world action RPG about a player trying to deal with a situation where villagers are turned to stone by an unidentified stranger. The board rated the game as not suitable for minors due to mature content, including sexual language, frequent killing, bloodshed, bodily mutilation, criminal acts based on player choices, vulgar language, and profanity.

That rating is broadly in line with the tone of past Fable games, which have often mixed fantasy adventure, dark humor, player choice, violence, and adult jokes. The important part is timing. Games are often rated a few months before release, and the report compares this to other Korean rating examples. Death Stranding 2 was rated in February 2025 and launched in June, while Metroid Prime 4 was rated in July 2025 and launched in December. Based on that pattern, Fable could land around late September or October.

The possible timing also makes business sense. Grand Theft Auto 6 is still confirmed for November 19, and most publishers will want to avoid launching too close to Rockstar’s biggest release. A September or October launch would give Fable more room to breathe before GTA 6 dominates attention, sales charts, social media, and streaming platforms.

There had been some concern that Microsoft could move Fable into 2027 if it could not launch before GTA 6. Insider Jeff Grubb had suggested that possibility earlier, but the new ratings and Playground’s recent “later this year” wording give fans more reason to believe the game will still arrive in 2026.

The stakes are high for Xbox. Playground Games has already had a strong year with Forza Horizon 6, which received strong reviews and is reportedly nearing 5 million units sold despite being available through Game Pass. If Fable also launches successfully, Playground could become one of Microsoft’s most important studios in 2026.

Fable is also important because it revives one of Xbox’s older and more recognizable RPG franchises. Microsoft needs major first party games that can give players confidence in its publishing schedule, and Fable has the kind of name recognition that can help if the final game lands well.

For now, the rating does not replace an official release date. Microsoft may still reveal that at an upcoming showcase. But the signs are becoming stronger. Fable has fresh international ratings, Playground still says it is coming this year, and the likely window now appears to be before GTA 6 rather than after it.
