Diablo 4 Season 14, called Season of Death Awakening, launches on June 30 with one of the game’s biggest item system changes yet. Blizzard is overhauling Mythic Uniques, adding a new seasonal event across Sanctuary, bringing permanent Solo Self Found characters, and moving The Tower and leaderboards out of beta.
The season arrives after the Lord of Hatred expansion and aims to give players more meaningful progression through crafting, endgame ranking, and new combat activities. It also introduces a refreshed reward track, additional Paragon points, more skill points, and a Diablo 4 x Overwatch collaboration.
The major question is whether the Mythic Unique changes will improve build variety without making the hunt for powerful gear feel less special.
Mythic Uniques are becoming more flexible
Season 14 changes the role of Mythic Uniques. Instead of being treated only as extremely rare items, Mythic status can now be added to regular Unique items through crafting.
Players can upgrade a Unique item into a Mythic Unique using the Horadric Cube or the Jeweler. The system becomes available from level 70 in Torment difficulty and above.
The process is now more predictable than it was during the public test period. If you use a Unique pair of boots, you will receive a Mythic Unique pair of boots in return. The resulting item may have a different Unique effect, but it will always stay within the same equipment slot.
| Mythic Unique change | What it means |
|---|---|
| Crafting requirement | Available from level 70 in Torment difficulty |
| Upgrade methods | Horadric Cube or Jeweler |
| Slot protection | The crafted item stays in the same slot |
| Power increase | Unique effects gain 30% more strength |
| Maximum rolls | Added affixes roll at maximum values |
| Equipped limit | Only one crafted Mythic Unique at a time |
| Natural drops | No limit on naturally found Mythics |
Blizzard is also keeping two guaranteed affixes on all Unique items to help preserve their individual identity. That should prevent the system from turning every Unique into a generic stat container.
Pandemonium Ruptures bring a new seasonal activity
The seasonal theme introduces Pandemonium Ruptures across the open world and Helltide areas. These unstable events create combat zones where players fight guardians to keep the rupture active and earn stronger rewards.

The activity has similarities to earlier Realmwalker events, but Blizzard has made adjustments in response to feedback. The goal is to make the events more rewarding and give players another reason to spend time in Sanctuary’s open world.
Defeating Realmwalkers can open access to Deathtoll Chambers. These are specialised mini-dungeons that offer Superior Lair Keys, which are needed to enter the new seasonal boss hoard.
Season 14 also adds a new enemy family called The Risen. These monsters drop Orbs that must be destroyed before the Exarch can launch a dangerous attack. This creates another layer of combat awareness during seasonal encounters.
The Tower and leaderboards leave beta
The Tower and Diablo 4’s leaderboard system are becoming full features in Season 14. Players will be able to compete for weekly rewards, prestige titles, cosmetic Halos, and end-of-season Emblems based on their highest ranking.
The season also introduces Solo Self Found mode. This is a permanent character state where players cannot trade or join parties. In return, they gain access to dedicated Solo Self Found leaderboard categories.
That gives solo players a more competitive environment where rankings are based entirely on individual progress.
Quality of life improvements support faster progression
Blizzard is also making several practical changes to reduce unnecessary downtime.
The Obol cap is increasing to 25,000, allowing players to hold more currency before returning to town. The Gold cap is rising to 999,999,999,999, giving high-level players much more room to trade, craft, and upgrade without reaching the limit.
Party play is also receiving improvements through synced War Plan boards, helping groups coordinate activities more easily.
The Season of Death Awakening reward track includes up to 12 Skill Points, 42 Paragon points, and seven Resplendent Sparks. A new Diablo 4 x Overwatch event begins on June 30, allowing players to earn themed cosmetics such as the Kiriko Fox Pet.
The 3.1.0 update will be available to pre-download on June 25 at 10:00 a.m. PDT for Battle.net, Xbox, and PlayStation.
