Darksiders Warmastered Edition gets free Xbox Series X and S upgrade for existing owners

Darksiders Warmastered Edition is now available on Xbox Series X and Series S, and existing Xbox One owners can upgrade to the new version for free. THQ Nordic confirmed the upgrade alongside the current generation release, making the Xbox version more generous than the PlayStation version.

The new release brings War’s original adventure to modern consoles with native 4K rendering, 60FPS gameplay, and Photo Mode support. It is still the same action adventure game at its core, with combat, puzzles, exploration, and the comic book style that helped the series stand out when it first launched.

The free upgrade applies if you already own the Xbox One version of Darksiders Warmastered Edition. If you do not own it yet, the new Xbox Series X and S version costs $29.99 or £24.99.

The PlayStation upgrade is different. Players who own the PS4 version need to pay $9.99 to move to the PS5 version. That difference has already caught attention because Xbox owners are getting the same current generation upgrade without an extra charge.

The pricing setup is a little confusing. The older PS4 version will remain available at a lower price, while the newer PS5 edition costs more. On Xbox, the Xbox One version appears to move into the new pricing structure, but current owners still receive the Series X and S upgrade at no extra cost.

For Xbox players, the result is simple. If Darksiders Warmastered Edition is already in your library, you should be able to access the improved version without buying it again.

The upgrade is also good timing for anyone who wants to revisit the series. Darksiders remains a strong mix of hack and slash combat, dungeon style puzzles, and dark fantasy storytelling. The jump to 4K and 60FPS should make it feel cleaner and smoother on modern Xbox hardware.

There is also a useful deal for new buyers. The Darksiders Fury’s Collection bundle, which includes both Darksiders Warmastered Edition and Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition, has recently been available for around $10. That could be the better choice if you want both games instead of buying only the first one at full price.

Darksiders Warmastered Edition is not a brand new game, but a free current generation upgrade makes it much easier to recommend for existing Xbox owners. THQ Nordic could have charged for the upgrade everywhere, but Xbox players are getting a cleaner path to the improved version.
