Bloober Team has revealed more gameplay from Cronos: Lazarus, showing how the upcoming expansion changes the pace of combat by putting players in control of a more aggressive character.
The expansion focuses on the Pathfinder, a character that players of Cronos: The New Dawn may know as the Warden. Unlike the more cautious survival horror approach of the main game, the Pathfinder has abilities designed around mobility, deception and quickly eliminating groups of enemies.
Cronos: Lazarus is still scheduled to launch this fall for Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. A specific release date has not been announced.
Pathfinder abilities encourage aggressive combat
One of the Pathfinder's main abilities is Teleportation. It allows the character to rapidly move across significant distances, making it useful both during combat and while navigating damaged environments.
The ability can be used to escape dangerous positions, close the distance to an enemy or quickly move to another part of an encounter. It gives the Pathfinder considerably more mobility than players may be used to from the base game's combat.
Decoy provides a different type of advantage. Activating the ability sends out a holographic copy of the Pathfinder while the real character temporarily enters stealth. This gives you an opportunity to redirect enemy attention before repositioning or attacking from another angle.
The latest gameplay presentation also introduces Tracker Mode, another ability that can work together with Decoy.
| Ability | Main function |
|---|---|
| Teleportation | Quickly reposition during combat and cross difficult environments |
| Decoy | Creates a holographic distraction while the Pathfinder becomes harder to detect |
| Tracker Mode | Marks a location that explodes shortly afterward |
| Gladius | Can pierce through multiple enemies when they are positioned correctly |
Tracker Mode is activated while aiming. After selecting a location, the Pathfinder fires at the target area and causes an explosion shortly afterward.
The mechanic becomes especially useful when combined with Decoy. Enemies known as Orphans can be attracted toward the holographic copy, allowing several of them to gather around one location before the delayed explosion is triggered.
Lazarus puts greater emphasis on speed
The new abilities appear designed to support a faster style of play rather than simply giving the Pathfinder more defensive options.
Gameplay footage shows the character positioning multiple enemies in a line before attacking them with the Gladius. The Pathfinder can also activate Decoy, move behind an enemy while concealed and use a shotgun at close range.

Fire based attacks provide another direct option when enemies are within reach.
These mechanics suggest that Cronos: Lazarus will retain the original game's horror setting while changing how players approach encounters. Movement, enemy positioning and ability combinations appear to play a larger role, giving you more opportunities to control the battlefield instead of relying primarily on careful movement and resource management.
The expansion remains without an exact launch date despite its planned fall release window. Bloober Team has continued releasing gameplay footage and ability details, suggesting development is far enough along for the studio to demonstrate substantial sections of the Pathfinder's combat system.
Cronos: Lazarus will be available on Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 when it launches later this year.
