Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War could be heading to Xbox Game Pass in the coming months after signs appeared that Microsoft is preparing a PC version through its own store. The change does not confirm a release date, but it is similar to the activity seen before Call of Duty: Vanguard joined the subscription service.
Black Ops Cold War is currently available on Xbox consoles, but the appearance of an Xbox for PC version has raised expectations that the game may soon be added across Game Pass platforms. If Microsoft follows the same pattern as Vanguard, the shooter could arrive sometime around September.
The timing would also help fill the gap before the next mainline Call of Duty release. Modern Warfare 4 is expected to launch on October 23, and players may need to buy it separately if they want access on day one.
A PC store listing could be an early Game Pass clue
Microsoft has not announced Black Ops Cold War for Xbox Game Pass. However, the new PC store activity is notable because older Call of Duty games have often needed a Microsoft Store version before they can join the PC side of the service.
That does not make the release certain. Store listings can appear for other reasons, including technical preparation, launcher changes, or wider platform support. Still, it is one of the more convincing signs that Xbox may be preparing another older Call of Duty game for subscribers.
| Game | Current situation | Possible next step |
|---|---|---|
| Call of Duty: Vanguard | Recently added to Game Pass | Already available to subscribers |
| Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War | PC version reportedly appearing on Microsoft Store | Possible Game Pass addition |
| Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 | Expected October 23 | May require a separate purchase at launch |
Microsoft has steadily expanded Game Pass with older Activision titles since its acquisition of the publisher. The additions have given subscribers a chance to revisit campaigns and multiplayer modes without buying every game individually.
Black Ops Cold War remains one of the stronger modern entries
Released in 2020, Black Ops Cold War returned the series to its Cold War setting with a campaign built around espionage, covert operations, and multiple mission outcomes.
The game also included traditional multiplayer, Zombies modes, and integration with Call of Duty: Warzone. Its campaign was shorter than some earlier Black Ops games, but it was generally praised for its fast pace, branching mission structure, and more focused story.

For many fans, Black Ops Cold War remains one of the better recent Call of Duty releases. It may not have the same reputation as the original Black Ops or Black Ops 2, but it has built a strong following over time.
More older Call of Duty games could follow
Adding Black Ops Cold War would continue Microsoft’s strategy of using Game Pass to strengthen its back catalogue. Older Call of Duty games remain popular because each entry offers a different campaign, era, multiplayer style, and Zombies experience.
A Game Pass launch could also introduce the game to players who skipped it when it first released. That may be especially useful for people who want to play through the Black Ops series before newer entries arrive.
For now, subscribers should treat the possible addition as an early sign rather than a confirmed announcement. Microsoft has not revealed an official Game Pass date for Black Ops Cold War, but the PC store changes suggest the game may be closer than expected.
