Bose QuietComfort 2nd Gen Leak Reveals August Launch, New Audio Modes, and $359 Price

Bose is reportedly preparing to introduce its second generation QuietComfort headphones in August, bringing several hardware and software upgrades without a major price increase.

According to leaked information, Bose plans to announce the QuietComfort 2nd Gen on August 7, 2026. Preorders are expected to begin on the same day, followed by a wider release on August 13. Bose has not officially confirmed the headphones, so the launch dates and specifications should still be treated as unofficial.

The new model is expected to replace the standard QuietComfort headphones introduced in September 2023. That version followed the QC45 and offered up to 24 hours of battery life, strong active noise cancellation, and a lower price than the QuietComfort Ultra range.

While Bose refreshed its premium Ultra headphones with a second generation model, the regular QuietComfort series has received few major changes. The leaked update could bring the standard range closer to the Ultra lineup while keeping it at a more accessible price.

Bose could add spatial audio and lossless USB C playback

One of the biggest reported additions is Bose TrueSpatial audio. The feature is expected to create a wider and more immersive listening experience for music, films, and other content.

The headphones could also support lossless audio playback through USB C. On the current model, the USB C port is mainly used for charging. The new feature would allow you to connect the headphones directly to a compatible device for higher quality wired audio without using a separate analogue cable.

Several new listening options are also reportedly planned. These include Immersion mode, Cinema Mode, and a dedicated ANC Off setting. The new system appears to replace the more limited custom mode controls available on the current headphones.

Redesigned cushions and a wider headband may improve comfort

Bose is reportedly making physical changes to improve comfort during longer listening sessions. The second generation model is said to use redesigned pill shaped ear cushions and a wider adjustable headband.

Additional synthetic leather could also be added to the headband. These changes may help spread pressure more evenly across your head, although comfort will depend on the final materials, weight, and clamping force.

The broader colour selection could be another noticeable change. Alongside Black and White Smoke, Bose may offer Rosewood Mauve, Eucalyptus Green, Dewdrop Mint, and Hazelnut Taupe. This would give buyers more options than the relatively conservative colours usually available at launch.

Noise cancellation could handle sudden sounds more smoothly

The QuietComfort range is known for active noise cancellation, and the next model is expected to receive an updated version of Bose ActiveSense.

ActiveSense is used in Aware mode to manage sudden loud noises while still allowing outside sound to reach you. The revised system reportedly handles abrupt sounds more smoothly, which could make Aware mode more comfortable in busy streets, public transport, and other unpredictable environments.

Battery life is not expected to improve despite the new features. The headphones are said to provide up to 24 hours of playback with active noise cancellation enabled, matching the current model. Using TrueSpatial audio may reduce the figure to around 18 hours.

The reported US launch price is $359, which is close to the existing model’s original price. European pricing is expected to be €349.95, while the UK price may be £299.95.

If the leak is accurate, Bose is focusing on audio features, comfort, and listening flexibility rather than longer battery life. Official confirmation is expected in the coming weeks, but specifications, regional availability, and release dates could still change before the announcement.
