Hideo Kojima has revealed that actor Bill Skarsgård will play the lead character in Physint, the upcoming action espionage game from Kojima Productions.
The announcement was made during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast, where Kojima appeared as a surprise guest near the end of the presentation. Skarsgård will portray the player character, making him the first major cast member confirmed for the project.
Kojima said the two have been longtime admirers of each other’s work and decided to collaborate on the game. More casting announcements are expected as development progresses.

Physint gets its first major casting reveal
Kojima Productions also released a new poster for Physint featuring Skarsgård alongside Charlee Fraser, suggesting that additional character details could follow later.
Skarsgård is known for a wide range of film and television roles, and his involvement continues Kojima's long standing practice of working with established actors.
The Death Stranding series featured performers including Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux and Elle Fanning, among others. Physint appears set to continue that approach.
Details about Skarsgård's character remain limited. Kojima confirmed that he is playing the game's lead and player controlled character, but no name, background or gameplay role has been revealed yet.
Physint changed publishers after Sony left the project
Physint was first announced in 2024 as Kojima's return to the action espionage genre. Development later changed direction after Sony exited the partnership.
Xbox eventually became the publisher behind the project.
Kojima previously said his studio spent around three months searching and negotiating for another partner after Sony's departure before reaching an agreement with Xbox.
During the Tokyo Game Show appearance, Kojima also mentioned meeting Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and thanked Xbox for supporting the project's direction.
The move makes Physint another major Kojima Productions project connected with Xbox.
Kojima also gives an update on OD
The same presentation included a brief update on OD, Kojima Productions' separate horror project for Xbox.

Kojima said development is progressing smoothly and that the project is continuing to take shape.
OD is being written by Hideo Kojima in collaboration with filmmaker Jordan Peele and is intended to explore fear through an unconventional interactive format.
Unlike Physint, OD is being positioned as a horror experience rather than an espionage game.
Physint still does not have a confirmed release window, and major gameplay details remain under wraps. The confirmation of Bill Skarsgård as its protagonist is therefore one of the clearest updates on the project since its original announcement.
With casting now beginning to emerge, Kojima Productions appears to be moving into a more public phase of development, although the studio has not yet indicated when a full gameplay reveal might happen.
