Battlefield 6 Adds Server Browser and Platoons on December 8 in Season 5

Battlefield 6 is finally getting two features players have been asking for since launch: a proper server browser and Platoons.

Both are scheduled to arrive on December 8, 2026 as part of the third phase of Season 5, called Frozen Aces. Season 5 itself begins earlier on October 13, the same day Battlefield 6 joins Game Pass.

The additions address two long standing complaints surrounding the game. A server browser gives players more control over where and how they play, while Platoons bring back a more structured social system for groups that regularly play together.

Server Browser Will Give Players More Control

The new server browser will allow you to search for servers based on factors such as maps, game modes and ping.

Players will also be able to host their own servers and adjust specific parameters, giving communities more freedom to create the kind of matches they want instead of relying entirely on automated matchmaking.

Server browsers have traditionally been an important part of Battlefield because they let players avoid unwanted rotations, poor connections or modes they do not enjoy.

The ability to run customized servers should also help communities organize specific rule sets and recurring events.

Platoons Bring Back a Clan Style System

Platoons are essentially Battlefield's version of clans.

The system is expected to include roles such as founders and leaders, along with custom emblems and other group features.

Earlier games in the series offered more extensive Platoon functionality. Battlefield 4, for example, included statistics and rankings, while later entries reduced some of those systems.

It is not yet clear how much of that older functionality will return in Battlefield 6.

Even so, the addition should make it easier for regular groups of players to organize themselves under a shared identity instead of relying entirely on external communities.

Season 5 Starts Before the New Features Arrive

Players will have to wait almost two months after the start of Season 5 before the server browser and Platoons become available.

Season 5 launches on October 13, while both features are reserved for Frozen Aces on December 8.

There will still be new content before then.

The Las Vegas Strip is being added as a new map during the early part of the season, and Battlefield Studios is also preparing a Dead Space themed event.

That gives Season 5 a mixture of new gameplay content and larger quality of life additions spread across several phases.

Battlefield 6 Is Still Addressing Launch Complaints

Battlefield 6 is reaching its first anniversary after a mixed first year.

The game launched with strong reviews and substantial player numbers, but activity declined sharply over time.

Bugs, missing features and other design complaints contributed to that drop, while some players also criticized the way Battle Pass challenges pushed them toward REDSEC.

The server browser and Platoons will not solve every issue, but both additions target areas that have repeatedly been requested by the community.

For players who prefer selecting their own servers or building longer term groups, December 8 could be one of the most important updates Battlefield 6 has received since launch.
