ASUS RTX 5090 hits 3.7 GHz and breaks three world records with extreme overclocking

ASUS has pushed NVIDIA’s RTX 5090 to new limits, setting three world records in 3DMark benchmarks using its ROG Astral variant. The results are impressive—not just for the scores, but for how far the hardware was pushed.

The headline: over 50,000 points in Port Royal

The biggest milestone is a 50,060 score in 3DMark Port Royal, breaking past the 50K barrier. Alongside that, two more records were set:

BenchmarkScore
3DMark Port Royal50,060
3DMark Steel Nomad19,427
3DMark Speed Way18,734

All three records were achieved by overclocker SPLAVE using the same GPU.

3.7 GHz GPU clock is the real standout

The RTX 5090 was pushed to:

  • 3.7 GHz core clock
  • 36 Gbps memory speed (GDDR7)

These numbers are far beyond stock performance and only possible with extreme tuning and cooling.

Extreme cooling makes it possible

This was not a standard setup. The GPU was:

  • Disassembled
  • Fitted with a liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling system
  • Paired with custom cooling for VRMs

LN2 cooling allows hardware to run at extremely low temperatures, which reduces electrical resistance and enables much higher clock speeds.

Surprisingly done with a single 16-pin connector

One of the more interesting details is power delivery.

Despite the extreme overclock:

  • The GPU used just one 16-pin connector
  • That typically supports around 600W of power

Hitting these results within that limit is notable, especially given how power-hungry high-end GPUs have become.

What this means for real users

It is important to be realistic here:

  • These results are achieved under extreme conditions
  • They are not representative of everyday performance
  • LN2 setups are not practical for normal users

However, they still matter because they show:

  • The headroom of the GPU architecture
  • The quality of ASUS’s design and power delivery
  • The potential limits of the RTX 5090 platform

The takeaway: a showcase of what the hardware can really do

This is less about real-world gaming and more about proving limits.

The ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 shows:

  • Extremely high overclocking potential
  • Strong thermal and power design
  • Capability to break performance records

For most gamers, this will not change daily performance. But for enthusiasts and overclockers, it sets a new benchmark for what next-gen GPUs can achieve when pushed to the edge.
