ASUS ROG Strix G16 Drops to $1,649 With Ryzen 9 and RTX 5070

The ASUS ROG Strix G16 is currently available for $1,649.99, down from its usual $1,999.99 price. The $350 discount cuts about 18 percent from the cost of the 2025 gaming laptop, which combines an AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX processor with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 laptop GPU.

The configuration also includes 16 GB of DDR5 memory and a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. For anyone looking for a complete gaming system rather than buying separate desktop parts, the discounted price makes the machine more competitive as high end graphics hardware continues to remain expensive.

The laptop uses a 16 inch FHD+ display with a 165 Hz refresh rate and a 3 ms response time. ASUS also includes an ACR film intended to improve contrast and reduce glare.

Performance is one of the main reasons to consider this configuration. Similar hardware has demonstrated enough power to run demanding modern games at high frame rates.

Forza Horizon 5 can reach around 120 FPS at 1600p under suitable settings, while Cyberpunk 2077 can run around 60 FPS at 1600p with ray tracing enabled. Actual performance will depend on graphics settings, power mode, drivers, and individual game updates.

The high refresh rate display should also pair well with competitive and fast moving games where frame rates can move well beyond 60 FPS.

Memory and storage can be upgraded

The Strix G16 offers room for future upgrades rather than locking you into its original configuration.

Its DDR5 memory can be expanded to as much as 64 GB through two SO DIMM slots. Storage can also be increased to a maximum of 8 TB using two M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD slots.

That flexibility may matter if you plan to keep the laptop for several years, particularly as modern games continue to increase in storage size and memory requirements.

Cooling is another important part of the design. Gaming laptops with powerful CPUs and GPUs naturally generate substantial heat, and temperatures can reach around 90 to 94 degrees Celsius during demanding workloads.

The cooling system is designed to manage those temperatures without significant thermal throttling under normal operating conditions. A cooling pad can provide additional airflow, although it is not required for standard use.

ASUS also provides several performance profiles. Turbo and Performance modes are better suited to gaming when maximum frame rates are important, while Silent mode reduces fan noise during everyday work and lighter tasks.

A three month Xbox Game Pass subscription is also included, adding access to a broader PC gaming library.

At $1,649.99, the ROG Strix G16 remains an expensive laptop, but its Ryzen 9 processor, RTX 5070 graphics, high refresh rate display, upgradeable memory, and expandable storage give it a strong hardware package. The current $350 discount makes the configuration more attractive for buyers who were already considering a premium gaming laptop rather than building or upgrading a desktop PC.
