ASUS GPU Tweak III Beta Arrives as BTF Power Detector Plus Fix Nears Release

ASUS has released GPU Tweak III Beta 2.2.0.1, while confirming that another beta update is coming soon to fix a Power Detector Plus problem affecting some BTF graphics card configurations.

The new 2.2.0.1 build is dated September 30 and is available through the application's built in update system. ASUS has not published a changelog for this version, so it is currently unclear what specific fixes or adjustments it includes.

The more important update for some ROG graphics card owners is expected to arrive separately within the next few days.

That upcoming beta will target an issue where Power Detector Plus disappears when certain GeForce RTX 5090 cards are powered through ASUS' GC HPWR connector instead of the traditional 12V 2x6 input.

Power Detector Plus Can Disappear in BTF Mode

The problem has been reported with the ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 BTF OC Edition.

When the card is powered through a compatible motherboard using the GC HPWR connection, GPU Tweak III may no longer display the Power Detector Plus feature.

Connecting the same graphics card through its standard 12V 2x6 connector reportedly restores the monitoring function.

The behavior has also been reported on another high end configuration using a ROG Maximus Z890 Hero BTF motherboard and a ROG Astral RTX 5090 20th Anniversary Edition.

That suggests the issue is not necessarily limited to one isolated card.

HWiNFO Still Shows Some Data

The problem appears to affect ASUS' own monitoring feature more directly than the underlying power telemetry.

One owner reported that HWiNFO could still read voltage information while the graphics card was operating through the BTF connection.

However, individual current readings were missing.

That difference helped narrow the issue during troubleshooting, since the card was still providing at least some sensor information even when Power Detector Plus was unavailable inside GPU Tweak III.

ASUS support reportedly asked affected owners to compare behavior between the GC HPWR and 12V 2x6 connection methods as part of the investigation.

ASUS Says the Problem Is Already Fixed Internally

ASUS has now confirmed that the Power Detector Plus issue has been resolved internally.

A new GPU Tweak III beta containing the fix is expected within a few days.

This is important because the currently available 2.2.0.1 beta does not appear to contain that correction. ASUS specifically referred to another upcoming build when discussing the BTF monitoring issue.

Owners using supported ROG graphics cards through GC HPWR should therefore watch for the next beta rather than assuming 2.2.0.1 solves the problem.

The BTF ecosystem is designed to reduce visible cabling by moving power delivery to connectors integrated more directly with compatible motherboards and graphics cards. That cleaner layout also makes software monitoring especially important, since features such as Power Detector Plus can help owners keep track of power behavior.

For now, GPU Tweak III Beta 2.2.0.1 is available, but its exact changes remain undocumented. The more significant release for BTF RTX 5090 owners should be the next beta, which is expected to restore Power Detector Plus when the card is connected through GC HPWR.
