ASUS has released GPU Tweak III version 2.1.9.5 with a new protection option that can shut down a PC immediately when a configured GPU power threshold is reached.
The feature expands the company's Power Detector+ system, which monitors current flowing through individual pins on supported 12VHPWR and 12V 2x6 power connectors.
The latest update is mainly aimed at selected ASUS graphics cards such as ROG Astral and ROG Matrix models that include the required monitoring hardware.
Immediate shutdown joins the existing delayed protection system
ASUS previously added automatic shutdown support in GPU Tweak III version 2.1.8.0.
That implementation allowed the software to monitor whether excessive current remained present for a defined period before beginning a shutdown sequence.
Version 2.1.9.5 adds a separate option that can trigger the shutdown immediately once the configured threshold is reached.

Power Detector+ monitors six individual power pins
Power Detector+ tracks current across the six power carrying pins used by supported 12VHPWR or 12V 2x6 connectors.
Under the existing system, GPU Tweak III can monitor whether an individual pin stays above 12.5A.
Owners can configure how long that condition must continue before the protection system begins shutting down the computer.
The new immediate mode removes that waiting period when enabled.
If the defined condition is reached, the system can shut down at once rather than continuing to monitor the current for a longer interval.
The goal is to reduce the amount of time a connector remains under an abnormal electrical load.
The feature only works on supported ASUS graphics cards
The software option depends on Power Detector+ hardware being present on the graphics card.
ASUS currently offers the monitoring system on selected premium models, including cards in the ROG Astral and ROG Matrix families.
This means installing GPU Tweak III alone will not provide per pin current monitoring on every GPU.
The graphics card must have the required sensors and hardware integration.
That distinction is important because the feature monitors the actual current distribution across the connector rather than relying only on the GPU's overall board power reading.
Per pin monitoring can identify uneven current distribution
A modern high power GPU connector may carry substantial current through several individual contacts.
Problems can occur when that load is not distributed evenly.
If one pin carries significantly more current than the others, heat can build up around the affected contact.
Power Detector+ is designed to expose this behavior by monitoring individual pins rather than showing only total GPU power consumption.
The protection system can then react when a particular pin crosses a configured threshold.
An immediate shutdown option provides a more conservative response for owners who prefer to stop the system as soon as an abnormal condition is detected.
ASUS continues expanding GPU power monitoring
GPU Tweak III has received several updates focused specifically on power connector monitoring.
Version 2.1.7.2 introduced persistent real time amperage readings, allowing owners to watch the load on individual connector pins.
Version 2.1.8.0 added automatic shutdown support.
The latest release now adds a faster shutdown mode while also changing parts of the Power Detector+ interface.
This gradual expansion suggests ASUS is treating connector monitoring as an ongoing software feature rather than a one time addition.
Version 2.1.9.5 also includes interface and stability changes
The new release contains several smaller improvements beyond the shutdown option.
ASUS has refined the layout of the Power Detector+ settings area and says overall software stability has been improved.
Two localization problems have also been fixed.
One issue caused the "Don't remind me again" text in a Power Detector+ warning message to appear incorrectly when Korean was selected.
Another caused the GPU Clock and GPU Voltage labels on AMD graphics cards to remain in English regardless of the selected application language.
These fixes are minor compared with the power protection update, but they make version 2.1.9.5 a broader maintenance release.
Immediate shutdown adds another layer of protection
The new setting does not prevent every possible power connector problem, and it does not replace correct cable installation.
Owners still need to ensure that the connector is inserted fully, cables are not placed under excessive strain and the power supply is appropriate for the graphics card.
For supported ASUS GPUs, however, Power Detector+ adds another layer of monitoring by looking at current on individual pins.
Version 2.1.9.5 gives owners the option to respond more aggressively to abnormal readings by shutting the system down immediately when the chosen threshold is reached.
