AMD has expanded its Ryzen PRO 9000 desktop lineup with six new Zen 5 processors, including two models with 3D V Cache for professional and managed workstation systems. The new chips are the Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D, Ryzen 9 PRO 9965, Ryzen 9 PRO 9955, Ryzen 7 PRO 9755X3D, Ryzen 7 PRO 9755, and Ryzen 5 PRO 9655.
This is a bigger update than AMD’s earlier Ryzen PRO 9000 launch, which only included 65W models. The new lineup adds higher power options, more cores, and X3D variants, giving workstation builders stronger choices for systems that need both business features and high desktop class performance.
Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D brings 16 cores and 128MB cache to managed AM5 workstations
The top chip in the new lineup is the Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D. It has 16 Zen 5 cores, 32 threads, a boost clock of up to 5.5GHz, 128MB of L3 cache with 3D V Cache, and a 170W TDP. In simple terms, this is very close to a professional version of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, but AMD uses the PRO branding to separate it from the normal consumer desktop chip.
That distinction matters. This is not a Threadripper PRO processor and it is not meant for the same platform as AMD’s highest end workstation CPUs. It is an AM5 Ryzen PRO chip aimed at business desktops and workstation systems where companies want manageability, security, and platform support alongside strong performance.

The Ryzen 7 PRO 9755X3D is also important because it brings 3D V Cache to the 8 core PRO tier. It has 96MB of L3 cache and a 120W TDP, which could make it useful for workloads that benefit from extra cache without needing a 16 core chip.
AMD is also offering non X3D options for buyers who need higher clocks, simpler configurations, or lower cost. The Ryzen 9 PRO 9965 keeps 16 cores and a 170W TDP but drops to 64MB of L3 cache. The Ryzen 9 PRO 9955 offers 12 cores at 120W, while the Ryzen 7 PRO 9755 and Ryzen 5 PRO 9655 cover the 8 core and 6 core tiers.

The broader point is that Ryzen PRO 9000 now has a much wider range. The earlier 65W chips still make sense for compact office systems and lower power business desktops. These new 120W and 170W models are aimed at heavier workstations, where cooling and power budgets are larger and performance matters more.
The naming may confuse some buyers. Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D sounds close to AMD’s consumer X3D chips, but it belongs to the business focused Ryzen PRO family. That means it is more likely to appear in OEM workstations and managed business PCs than in normal retail gaming builds.
This launch also connects with Lenovo’s new ThinkStation P4, which lists the Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D as a top CPU option. That gives AMD a clearer path into professional desktop workstations where Intel has traditionally been strong.
For workstation buyers, the new lineup gives more choice. You can now get Zen 5 performance, AMD PRO features, and 3D V Cache in AM5 based business systems without moving to Threadripper PRO. The Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D is the headline part, but the full lineup makes AMD’s managed desktop platform much more flexible.
