A 78 year old Scottish grandmother has earned a Guinness World Records title as the world's oldest female Fortnite streamer after building an audience of more than 24,000 followers.
Cath Bowie, who streams under the name grumpygran1948, began playing Fortnite in 2017 after being introduced to the game by her grandson. What started as a family challenge eventually turned into a long running streaming hobby that she has continued for around nine years.
Bowie says she still plays Fortnite every day and has no plans to slow down.

A challenge from her grandson started the journey
Bowie's Fortnite career began after her grandson introduced her to the battle royale game.
He apparently doubted that people would watch his grandmother play, which gave Bowie extra motivation to prove him wrong.
She said the comment encouraged her to keep going and build an audience of her own.
That decision has now resulted in more than 24,000 followers and an official Guinness World Records title.
Her story also reflects how gaming and livestreaming are no longer limited to younger audiences.
Players from very different age groups now participate in online games, streaming communities, and competitive titles.
Eliminations matter more than winning
Bowie says her main goal in Fortnite is not necessarily securing a Victory Royale.
Instead, she enjoys going into matches and eliminating other players.
She described herself as naturally competitive and said that taking out opponents remains one of her favorite parts of the game.

That approach has stayed consistent even after years of playing.
Rather than focusing entirely on rankings or match wins, she appears to enjoy the moment to moment combat and challenge of encountering other players.
Nine years of Fortnite have not reduced her enthusiasm
Bowie started playing in 2017, around the period when Fortnite was becoming one of the biggest multiplayer games in the world.
Nearly nine years later, she says she still enjoys playing and streaming regularly.
She credited her family for supporting her throughout that time, along with the many people she has met and played with online.
That long term enjoyment appears to be a major reason she has continued streaming rather than treating it as a short lived experiment.
Her Guinness recognition is therefore based not only on her age but also on years of active participation in the gaming community.
More than 24,000 people now follow her
The growth of Bowie's audience is particularly notable because streaming is highly competitive.
Thousands of Fortnite creators broadcast regularly across different platforms, making it difficult for any individual streamer to stand out.
Bowie's age, personality, and long history with the game have helped her build a distinct identity.
The grumpygran1948 name has become part of that appeal, with her story attracting viewers who may not normally expect to see someone in their late seventies streaming a fast paced battle royale game.
Age has not been a barrier
Bowie's message to other older players is simple: age should not prevent anyone from starting.
She said people should not assume they are too old to play games or stream simply because the activity is often associated with younger generations.
Her own experience supports that view.
She began without knowing whether anyone would watch and ended up earning a Guinness World Records title while continuing to enjoy the game years later.
For Bowie, Fortnite is less about chasing records and more about continuing a hobby she enjoys.
The world record may be the headline, but her daily routine remains largely unchanged: load into Fortnite, find opponents, and try to eliminate as many as possible.
