A large share of PC players are prepared to wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 rather than buying the game on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X and S at launch. In a recent reader poll, 39% said they would hold out for a PC version despite Rockstar Games still not confirming when that release will arrive.
GTA 6 is currently expected to launch on consoles first, leaving PC players without a confirmed date, platform details, or pricing. That has created a familiar situation for Rockstar fans, who have seen previous Grand Theft Auto releases arrive on PC after their console debut.
The poll result shows that many players are unwilling to buy the game twice, especially as the base version is expected to cost around $80 and higher editions reach $100.
Many Players Would Rather Wait Than Buy GTA 6 Twice
Waiting for a PC version can make financial sense for players who already own a capable gaming PC. Buying the game on console first and then purchasing it again later on PC could mean spending more than $160 before any extra content or online purchases.
PC players may also expect the later release to include more patches, improved performance options, higher frame rates, mod support, and better graphics settings. A delayed launch can be frustrating, but it may also result in a more polished version of the game.
| Poll response | Share of respondents |
|---|---|
| Wait for the PC version | 39% |
| Not interested in GTA 6 | 28% |
| Buy on console | 16% |
| Buy on console if they owned one | 8% |
| Wait for reviews before deciding | 8% |
The strongest response was not from people planning to buy the game immediately. Instead, it came from players willing to accept a potentially long delay before playing GTA 6.
A Significant Group Has No Interest in GTA 6
The second largest group in the poll said they were not interested in GTA 6 at all. Around 28% of respondents said they did not plan to buy the game, regardless of platform availability.

That result reflects how broad the gaming audience has become. GTA remains one of the industry’s biggest franchises, but not every PC player wants an open world crime game, even when it is one of the most anticipated releases of the decade.
Some players may also be waiting for gameplay footage, early reviews, technical analysis, or clearer information about the game’s content before deciding whether it is worth the price.
Console Players Will Get Access First
Only 16% of respondents said they planned to purchase GTA 6 on console. Another 8% said they would buy it on console if they owned one.
For players who do not have a current generation console, the cost is much higher than the game itself. Buying a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X and S only for GTA 6 may be difficult to justify, particularly as console and component prices remain high.
That leaves many PC players in a difficult position. They can buy additional hardware to play at launch, wait for Rockstar to announce a PC release, or avoid the game entirely.
GTA 6 PC Release Still Has No Confirmed Date
Rockstar has not announced a PC version of GTA 6, and there is no official timeline for when it could arrive. The lack of confirmation has not stopped anticipation, but it has made waiting the most practical option for many players.
A PC launch could arrive months after the console version, or it could take longer. Until Rockstar confirms its plans, PC players can only watch the console release approach and decide whether patience is worth more than playing on day one.
For now, the poll suggests that patience is winning.
