007 First Light Earns Steam Deck Verified Status After Small Text Issue Is Resolved

007 First Light has received Valve’s Steam Deck Verified badge after previously launching with a Playable rating.

The James Bond game already ran well on the handheld, but some in game text was considered too small for comfortable reading on the Steam Deck display. That issue appears to have been corrected, allowing the game to meet Valve’s full compatibility requirements.

The change means Steam Deck owners should now be able to install and play 007 First Light without facing the text readability warning attached to its earlier rating. Valve has not identified the exact update that resolved the issue, and no recent patch notes clearly mention a text size adjustment.

It is possible that the improvement arrived through an older update and was only recently reviewed by Valve. Compatibility ratings are not always updated immediately after a developer makes changes, especially when many games are waiting for testing.

The Verified badge confirms a smoother handheld experience

Valve awards the Verified badge when a game meets its main Steam Deck requirements. These include full controller support, readable text, suitable default graphics settings and the absence of major compatibility warnings.

A Playable rating does not mean that a game performs poorly. It usually means that you may need to complete a manual step, use the touchscreen, open an on screen keyboard or accept another minor limitation.

In the case of 007 First Light, the main problem involved text size rather than performance or controls. The game was already considered stable on the handheld and could deliver good visual quality with reasonable compromises.

The updated badge removes that warning and confirms that the interface should now be easier to read on the Steam Deck’s seven inch display.

This is particularly useful for a game that includes mission information, menus and dialogue prompts. Small text can make an otherwise good handheld experience uncomfortable, especially during longer sessions.

Despite its visual detail, the game has reportedly remained stable on Steam Deck. Image quality requires some reduction compared with a more powerful desktop computer or console, but the overall presentation remains suitable for portable play.

The new compatibility rating does not necessarily include a major performance update. Its main purpose is to confirm that the remaining text issue has been addressed.

Valve’s rating system is useful, although it should not be treated as a guarantee of perfect performance. Some Verified games can still experience frame rate drops in demanding areas, while some Playable titles may run well after a small adjustment.

In this case, the Verified label appears appropriate because 007 First Light was already running effectively and only needed a readability improvement.
