The bypass option is a two edged sword. I’ve sometimes gotten into such a habit of hitting it, that I’ve occasionally erased important files by accident. My advice is either don’t hit shift delete or train your mind to a Vulcan level of discipline before hitting control delete.

Good advice Mike. This is definitely worth highlighting. 😀

It is well-known that the recycle bin is the place where the references towards your deleted files and folders are kept. Physically, on your hard disk they occupy the same location.

Files that are in the delete recycle bin leave data on the hard drive and this data can be restored until it is overwritten. Now if the file in the recycle bin is put through a file shredder, will this also remove the corresponding files or data from the hard drive. If this is possible, files in the recycle bin could be left for a length of time or till you know that you don’t need any of the files anymore. This could be a guard against losing any files that might be needed.
