Since December 2018, the browser version is not accessible, without any comment from the authors. It looks like they discontinued it absolutely silently, without notifying users and without any plans.

That is not ok indeed. 🙁

Summary: Big disappointment. Originally I had marked it 1, but I did not find anything better with Finnish so I increased to 2. My current daystreak is 200.

Disclaimer: I am a heavy user of the free version of Duolingo (1200 daystreak), so I may be biased. The only reason I installed Mondly is that DL still does not support Finnish.

I am comparing the FREE part of Mondly with DL, as DL is completely for free.

Why I do not like Mondly:
– The content of the free version is (compared to DL) VERY poor, not systematic and not didactically structured like in DL.
– The application aggressively keeps bothering with offering their paid version.
– I understand they need to earn money but on the market with DL they must offer much more in the free version.
– GUI is heavyweight, showy background color, a lot of “fancy” features (e.g. in some exercises you cannot just click, you have to drag!), compared to the minimalistic GUI of DL where nothing disturbs you.
– They do not use the screen space economically – the font is not well readable and it does not respect my phone system font size settings. Ignoring accessibility in 2018 is not pardonable. On the same phone, I can easily read DL without glasses.
– Comparing to DL, you have to answer EXACTLY as Mondly wants (word order, exact choice of words), whilst I am used from DL that they flexibly accept a whole range of all the possible translations.
– The application is slow, you keep waiting for response long time.
