Thank you for the tip! I have a question: What if your icon file contains multiple icons? Is there a way to choose a specific icon in the icon file without having to extract it using third party software? Thanks!

what to do when the icon doesnt show up?

  • Chris says:

okay I’m not that tech savvy, but would you mind explaining where exactly this file even needs to be placed? you keep saying it needs to be placed in the “Root” of the drive but yeah i have no idea what that even is.. do you mean the “Autorun” file that they all have because there is nothing on mine that is labeled “Root”?

    • Ciprian Adrian Rusen says:

The root of the drive is what you see when you open that drive. For example, if the removable drive has the letter M, when you double click M and see the contents of it, that is the “Root”.

Hello, Chris. The Root means the very first folder of any particular device, be it a flash drive or an HDD. That means the first window when you open the device in your windows explorer, i. e. in your system window with the list of devices (Win + E).

One problem I can see – antivirus programs detecting the autorun file as a virus.

Yup used to do this for my pendrives and friends use to awe. LOL, I learnt this while exploring the autorun of my gigabyte motherboard cd.
