You can middle click icons to open new instances also.
Additionally, middle clicking on the window thumbnails closes them.

I tried it in XP with several programs and it didn’t work.

This works only on Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Thanks! In windows 10 it works with the Ctrl key and clicking the grouping icon in the taskbar as many times as windows of the same app you want to open…
