Ahhh — so it depends on the app — can’t get it to work with Audacity
You can middle click icons to open new instances also.
Additionally, middle clicking on the window thumbnails closes them.

I tried it in XP with several programs and it didn’t work.
This works only on Windows 7 and Windows 8.
