Thank you for this article. However, recently I’ve been trying to figure out if I can select which programs, apps and settings are set up for a new account. Is there a way to do this?

Ploni

if you make it a “child account” (you have this option when creating the account) you can restrict which programs, apps, etc. it can use.

I’m using Windows 8.1. I have all my settings on a local user account, however, I would like to transfer my settings including office 365 and outlook to my microsoft business account so I can use one drive. Can this switch be done?

Jon

I have created new accounts for all my family members. All of these new accounts can not access the settings screen to change basic things like profile picture. I also don’t have the option to manage the other users accounts in the way that is shown here. When I click on the accounts, nothing happens. Another Windows 8 fail. Seriously racking them up now Microsoft.

Some of these problems reduce the applicability of windows 8.1.

I have win 8.1. I’m the main admin account holder. Trying to add another user. Got it, but he can’t sign into HIS account. As soon as he clicks on his acct, prompts him to sign in, and as soon as he does, it signs him out before even letting him sign in?? I use the finger swipe to sign in to mine…and notice it awaits MY finger swipe for HIS sign in acct. Ummm…i don’t have his account set to sign in with finger swipe, ONLY password. I have his acct under “CHILD”…

Hi Lisa. I’m having the same problem. I have been trying, trying, trying to create child’s accounts too. I created them just fine – I thought. When I try to sign in using their account password, it shows the “signing in screen for about 2 seconds. Then it goes to the “sign out” screen for a brief second. Then it lands back on the main sign in screen. I can still sign in with my account info. But the kid’s ID is not signing them in. Did you get an answer to your problem? I need the same help.

I’ve also this problem: I’ve created a new standard account using an different e-mail address however the sign in is not working, the Windows runs to sign in for 3 seconds and signs out right after. Does someone know what is happening?

regina

I’ve tried to create all types of new accounts. Some with e-mail, some without. Nothing works. It reacts exactly like you described. My next solution is to wait until Win10 is released for free and then upgrade. Maybe this will fix the problem. Short of buying a new laptop, I’m out of ideas.

if I change one of my accounts to window 7 will it change both of them to window 7

Marc

I want to change the way the administrator account loge in using Windows 8.1. Presently it dislpays the email address and asks for that password to sign in (signs in as a Microsoft account). I want to remove the email address from sign in and change it to another passord so Outlook Express cannot be accessed without putting in it’s password later.

Roger

i tried and had this error The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in.” “User profile can not be loaded on windows 10, how do I get round this?

I can’t switch the user in Windows 8.1. When I click on my user name it is just showing the sign out option and not the option to login to a different user. I need help with this.

Do you have more than one user account on your Windows 8.1 device?
