My former (MIUI 11) and also my new/current (OriginOS 1.0) phone do both NOT support on-system-level control of the filetype and compression method of screenshots.
However, it seems that at least MIUI 11 selects them automatically per each shot, because the file extension is a surprise everytime. The chance that a shot turns out as a PNG, is higher with “scrolled” shots. (But that is not supported by all content-carrying apps and by all content itself, so it isn’t controllable either.)
With the OriginOS phone I only made 3 standard shots from configuration UI pages (for helpdesk ticket purpose….) via the onboard screenshot tool, and those 3 shots turned to be, sadly, in JPG.

can’t change or adjust screenshot settings natively using current android system in july 2021.
So helpful, the third party app world perfect for me, thank you!
