I don’t want to disagree, but I use Comodo, and it runs in the background with no notification while still protecting my system. I’m not saying it’s necessarily better, but it a virus somehow does get unleashed the Windows firewall is usually the first to go. IMHO.

Thank you.

I prefer Zone Alarm free firewall. It does like Comodo: something Windows Firewall Does not, keep information from going to the cloud without user awareness.
Personally I didn’t like Comodo, there was too much ads and questions at inconvenient times. Sandbox was great, but Zone Alarm does the firewall job that Windows FW does not, without too much hassle.

Have you tried Windows Firewall Control from binisoft.org ? This makes Windows Firewall to be even more easier to configure and also have outbound notifications.

Comodo *was* good, then they released version 6 and it turned into a pile of dog crap. I was forced to switch to Online Armor, which has so far exceeded my expectations. Windows Firewall may be good, but unless I’m mistaken, it doesn’t have HIPS. HIPS is more or less the most powerful defense a Windows computer can have.

Why we are using firewall ? what is the advantages of that?

Punisher of Fools

oh god… why u can post? what is the advantage of that?

instead of wasting our time doing newbie questions, ask on google … this is not a forum to teach “how to turn on the PC” to people who do not know what it means CPU

I use to love zone alarm, but for some reason in the last few versions. every time you uninstall it, it is messing with the windows networking stack, having to reinstall, then uninstall it fixes this issue, this issue pops up and basically prevents you from using USB modems to connect. if you use whireless networks other then said modems, you will not find this issue. it is random but I did see this happen on 2 systems already, and it worries me. because if you did not know what to look for. you’d never no the answer.

Im not sure what a firewall does. Is it for printing documents in Word or Atlantis? Please help.

If you have no idea of what it is then you will not know how to use it so don’t worry about it.

How can you trust a firewall by a company who by its own admissions says it has designed it OS to be able to peer and downoad personal files on ones system…according to the EULA10…even which may including materials protected from searches and retrievals by our Consitution, HIPAA regulations, intellectual and personal property laws, and copyright law. If Microsoft is willing to break the law, then their firewall is unlikely to prevent anything that by design they are already willing to do illegally.
