The problem is that gaming laptops usually come paired with i7. You can’t really get a 1070 with i5. I haven’t seen models like that, maby there are a few fringe ones.
Another thing it would have been nice if you compared thermals/sound if the cooling solutions are identical on both. usually an i7 goes far beyond the cooling capability of a laptop, in turn, dragging down the gtx’s performance with it.
Final conclusions are ok, but your understanding is 100% off. i5-7300HQ has 4 cores, not 2. The difference is because i5 offers 4 threads and i7 offers 8 – and current games don’t use more than 4 threads efficiently.
“When they do use more than one processor core, they do not use more processing threads” – this is utter nonsense. A program can’t utilize more cores without more processes/threads. Games do use threads.
