Good article but for what it’s worth I think the ‘Local Users and Groups’ snap-in is not available for Win 7 home premium and below.

You are correct. I did not notice this. Thanks for sharing this important detail.

I noticed that on my Windows Vista, there is no System Tool called “Local Users and Groups” Can I add this tool? or just create it? I have everything else. I am doing a tutorial and I don’t have this one part.
Please let me know. I got a class starting on 08-14 for SQL Server 2008
Thank You!!

What version of Windows Vista are you using?

Hi, is there something those with Win 7 Home Premium CAN use as a substitute? I have to share my PC with my son and set him up with Win user account but noticed he has permission to most of my folders (off the root). I don’t want to use a third party app like folder lock. Thanks.

Thank you for the information! I almost deleted the homeusers$ group

so I have windows 8.1 and I opened a window by searching netplwiz and here a window popped up listing all users

Originally it did not list ANY account as an administrator (mind you I’m the only user on this laptop). So I went ahead and changed one to administrator. Nothing bad happened. However I also have another user under my email that is listed as a HomeUsers. Should I change this one to an administrator too? I only have one account why does it look like I have two?

Looks like this:

User Group

******@**.com Administrator
******@**.com HomeUsers
HomeGroupUser$ HomeUsers

Mind you the first two are under my own email and I actually had to make one an administrator. It was previously “HomeUsers”
