I kept having ECS show up in Control Panel of x64 builds and could not figure out what it was because, as you mention, its broken. This is the only article I could find that linked “ECS” to Work History Folders. With that knowledge, I was able to go into “Turn Windows Features on or off” and uncheck Work History Folders to remove it. Even though it wasn’t causing any actual problems, I had support customers complain about “something being broken in control panel.” Thank you for finally ending my grief over this issue.
I’m happy to have helped. I’ve sent this article to several other publications, and everyone ignored it. Some even said that I’m wrong, and it’s a local issue for my specific laptop, which isn’t true. 🙂
Yes! I have just purchased “the latest and greatest” CoPilot ARM laptop for my wife, and found out (only after a long, protracted search) that Windows doesn’t support File History on Arm computers.
Devious I call it!

I’m sorry you’ve encountered the same issue. 🙁 What did you choose to set up for backing up her data?
