I updated my controller but didn’t know I need to have the headset in. Now I can’t hear or talk to anyone. I went back to update it again and could not.
I’m sorry to hear this. I did not encounter such issues after performing the update. But I did read the “small notes” and updated both at the same time.
Wild idea: can you take a controller that is not yet updated, plug the headset in and then perform the update on that one?

Hey there!
I just got a XBOX One Controller and Headset Adapter. However, I do not own an XBOX One, but use it with my PC (Win 8.1, Intel i7, nVidia 760, 16GB RAM).
I got the Controller working and I’m absolutely glad I got it. The headset adapter however, just doesn’t work. Didn’t find any updates or anything.
What shell I do?

So this didn’t work for me at all. I plugged in my xbox controller with the usb cable and when I went to update my controller it just keeps saying that the controller is not plugged in. It clearly is because I double and triple checked it. Why does it have to be so difficult to update something? The xbox console update happened automatically. But this won’t? Stupid
I’m having the same issue as you. What was your solution?

Originally, I was experiencing a lot of lag with my controller, and I had heard that it might be because it needed to be updated. I plugged it in to perform the update with a non-Xbox micro USB, and it stopped working. It shut off, and now it won’t turn back on. I’ve changed the batteries and that did nothing.
Anybody managed to sort the issue with updating their controller? Mine worked fine until I started playing The Witcher 3 which I only bought yesterday. My batteries died while I was playing so I swapped them over and the controller just started flashing all the time so I took them out and connected via Ian which worked intermittently for a minute and then just died. I can turn on the controller but it doesn’t seem to connect and now it doesn’t recognise the controller when plugged in via usb. Tried different batteries, tried Xbox reboot, tried unplugging Xbox and turning back on but to no avail, please help!!!

I started updating my controller because I got a new headset and my controllers shut off before the update started. Now they won’t turn on again even after changing batteries. Any ideas?

Microsoft needs to deal with this, everyone is having the same problem. I want to say that the controller is just broken, because it wont even turn on when the USB is connected. I hate to spend $60 on a new one if the controller isn’t actually broken.

I got a brand new xbox one yesterday for my birthday. Plugged it in and it worked fine. Today I started it and was asked to update my controller which I did. Since then my controllers left stick keeps drifting to the top. no matter what I do I cannot resolve this. I contact xbox support and they just offered to replace the controller although this means me sending it off to them before they can send a replacement back, which will obviously take a few weeks as I am in Uk. I find it ridiculous that I have to do this as they should at least send me a new controller with no quibble, and what if I get the new one and the update does the same thing? Whats more there does not appear to be any proper complaints procedure, only a feedback section which allows you to post comments! I’m disgusted and annoyed that its going to take me at least 2 weeks to be able to play on my new console. all because of a stupid software update which to be honest I didnt want!

When I go to settings then system there is no update controller entry to select.

Please talk to Xbox One Support: http://support.xbox.com/en-us/
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and see “Contact Support”.
