I didn’t know anyone uses this π
I use Steam for all my games. I also add games that don’t support Steam so they show up in the sidebar.
Steam has a big community, you can interact with friends, can see your achievements, has good price deals (sales are truly insane), has automatic update system, and has dedicated forum sections for each game.
For all I know, MS doesn’t care anymore about PC gaming. Only about console gaming. Games for Windows Live is also a joke lol.
I admit – they could be much better at it. I hope that with Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and the next generation of Xbox they will be better at it.

“However, not all games you install might be found there as they might not be integrated with this feature of Windows. Luckily you can add games to this panel, even if they donβt install a shortcut in this folder.”
This article did not explain at all how to take games that I installed from a disk to the programs folder and add them to the Game Panel. I’ve tried everything and can’t hink of why ti won’t work.

Create a shortcut to that game on the Desktop. Then, Cut and Paste into the Games folder.
what if there is no “Games” in the start menu to begin with? how can I add it?
How to add games? Through their shortcut?
Yes.
