View, Edit, Save & Share Presentations with Office for Windows Phone 8

In our previous tutorials about Office for Windows Phone, we've shown how to work with Word documents and Excel spreadsheets. Today, we'll talk about PowerPoint and how to work with presentations from your Windows Phone 8. I will share how to view a presentation on your smartphone, how to edit it and how to save it & share it with others.

IMPORTANT: Word and Excel for Windows Phone 8 allow you to create documents and spreadsheets, directly on your phone. However, you cannot create PowerPoint presentations. But, you can view any PowerPoint file stored on your SkyDrive and other places. Furthermore, you can also edit existing presentations. However, PowerPoint for Windows Phone 8 does not support all the features found in PowerPoint 2010 and 2013, as you will see later in this article.

How to View a PowerPoint Presentation in Windows Phone 8

Open the Office app, using its Start screen tile or its shortcut in the Apps list.

Once you have opened Office, you'll have to locate and open the presentation you want to view. There are two ways to do this:

  • Flick to the places screen and browse the locations available to find your presentation.

For, example, if you want to open a presentation found on your SkyDrive, tap SkyDrive and then browse to your file.
  • Flick to the recent screen and tap a presentation you haved recently opened.

How to Edit Text in a PowerPoint Presentation in Windows Phone 8

PowerPoint allows you to edit the slides of your presentation. However, only the text can be edited. You cannot change pictures, clipart, audio and so on.
To start the editing process, switch to the slide that contains the text you want to edit. Then, tap edit on the bottom menu.

If your phone is in landscape mode, first tap the slide and after that, tap edit.

Then, tap the text you want to change and PowerPoint will select it for you.

The selected text is now shown inside a box. Tap on this box. This will open a new screen, where you can modify the existing text or write something new.

When you have finished writing, tap done to use the new content or cancel if you don't want to save your changes.

To end the editing process and go back to the view mode, tap the slideshow button, on the bottom of the screen.

How to Move & Hide Slides in a PowerPoint Presentation

Besides editing the text from your slides, PowerPoint for Windows Phone 8 also enables you to move or hide slides from a presentation. Both these options are available in the more menu, found at the bottom of the editing screen.

To move a slide to another position, first start editing the presentation, tap more and then move slide.

A new screen is displayed, listing the slides in your presentation.

To move a slide, tap and hold its entry and drag it to the new position.

To hide a slide from the slideshow, tap hide slide in the more menu.

To unhide the slide, tap unhide slide.

How to Add Notes to a PowerPoint Presentation in Windows Phone 8

Just like in Word and Excel for Windows Phone, you can also use PowerPoint to add notes and comments to the slides in your presentation.
To add a note to a slide, open the presentation in view mode (no need to access the editing tools). Next, tap the slide and then tap anywhere below it.

If you use your phone in landscape mode, first flick the screen up to see the notes, and then tap the notes area.
