Frankly I never used Windows tools for system recovery, I tried that in the past but it always led me to a dead end and I had get hard drive recovery eventually. I’d like to believe this solution works on system file recovery, has anybody here actually tried it?

Hello there.
I tried to start the System Recovery Options both from the DVD and from my hard disk. I have the following problem: after the step “In the next window click on the ‘Repair your computer’ link.” I never get the next window, where I should select the OS I want to repair!

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance 🙂

I have the same exactly problem…. the Windows 7 never gets into the point where I can see the System Recovery Options…. Just stays there… a light blue screen… the mouse moves around… but nothing happens.

How I hate Windows… and my machine is a SONY VAIO laptop with less than a year of home ONLY use.

I really appreciate your clear and concise, step by step instructions.

Well done and many thanks !! I am writing this while waiting for the System Image Recovery from an external drive to c: drive.

Waiting .. waiting .. rebooting ..DONE !!!

Fancy MS getting this right — have no choice after Acronis True Image stuffing up my drive after a restore !! Glad I had 1 Image from Acronis and 1 from MS.

Again, thanks for your excellent article.

Unfortunately I don’t have to much information on my grand daughter’s laptop. Operating system is Windows7 which came pre-installed so there is no disk that I can use. Right now it has a Startup problem which keeps looping to the same thing no matter what I try. It can’t fix the repair automatically and I don’t get the System Recovery Options list to select anything. All I get is Startup repair. I tried using F8 and that doesn’t work either. So now what. Can anyone help me with this problem? I would appreciate the help. Thanks.

I recently downloaded Windows 8 on my Windows 7 system. It was running good til I wanted to upgrade to Windows 8 Media Center. After that the computer “said” that it had to restart and it “did not” I had to take the Windows 7 disk put it in the drive to repair the boot sector on the “C” drive. It worked great! Now that I have checked out Windows 8. I “do not” like Windows 8. Now I will most likely find a way to uninstall it!!!

When I try to repair, none of my three operating systems (Ubuntu, Win 7 Home Premium (my original OS), and Win 7 Ultimate) will show up. I just encountered this problem today, and my most recent driver (or software installation/update in general) was for my video card. The command prompt guide listed on this same site didn’t solve my problem of the “Starting Windows” screen to hang, even before the logo appears. Is there any solution, or would my best bet be reinstalling Windows? (The problem is the same for both Win 7 instances, but Ubuntu boots just fine…)

What all you have provided is exactly what im following, but, when ever i do startup repair it says- windows cannot repair it automatically.

Could you advise me with regard to Windows Backup. I have an external hard drive connected to backup on a schedule. When the backup has finished, in the Backup and Restore window, it shows the date and time of the backup and the backup size.
If I go to Restore my Files and click on Browse for Folders it shows,
Backup of New Volume (E)
Backup of C
It then shows a different date and time, which could be a few days before I did the backup or more.
It shows a different date and time each time I do a backup.
For example the last backup shows
Backup and Restore
13/04/2015
05.13
Backup Size
115.31GB
If I then go to Restore My Files,
click Browse for Folders, it shows
Backup on New Volume (E)
Backup of C
05/04/2015
18.28.
I do not understand this. Could you advise me on this matter, thanks in advance.

My computer will not boot windows, and the startup repair was unsuccessful. None of the restore tools were available. I have a systems recovery disk with windows 7 created from another pc. I can get to a command prompt but which command do I type to get it to access the windows repair disk. Not sure if this would resolve problems anyway but I am hoping.
