How to disable the download manager? or to automatically download files with certain extension?

    • Ciprian Adrian Rusen says:

You cannot disable it. You wouldn’t be able to download files anymore, if you could. You simply need to search for other download managers, install those and have them replace the default download manager.

One such manager i found here: http://www.ieaddons.com/us/addons/detail.aspx?id=460
Did not test it though, to see if it is any good.

Some folks may like TweakIE9 found here: http://www.itknowledge24.com/downloads.html#

Thanks for the complete summary of things for IE. I have heard that IE 9 has built in download manager. Do you think its in any way competitive to IDM

    • Ciprian Adrian Rusen says:

Internet Explorer, as any other browser, does not have a download manager that acts as an accelerator – like the Internet Download Manager does.
If you want accelerated download speeds – you should install a third party download manager, instead of using the default one.

Could you please tell me how I register automatically a mimetype or extension in the downloadmanager, so that the file opens automatically??

The new ie 9 behaviour is a serious problem for our business.

  5. Mike Strong says:

What do you do if OPEN or RUN do not show up as IE9 options? My Windows 7 system only wants to “Save” or “Save As”, how do I get to to allow me to “Open” or “Launch” or “Run”?

I have goggling for the issue but didn’t found the solution for that issue.

      Thanks in advance.

What file are you trying to download? From where? Can you share a screenshot and the download link? Does the error message provide more text/details?

  7. josephbrown says:

Thanks for this post, i will try that.

  8. Lou says:

Like Lyle I too have the same problem. It says the same error message, File cannot be downloaded. Why is this happening? Everything was fine before. Thanks.

How can I get a prompt to ask me where I want a file saved? Never, ever, do I want 2 files in a row to end up in the same location, and having to save them to downloads and open each one and re-save it is SUCH a time waster.
