The complete guide to using the Kindle app to read eBooks in Windows 10 - Page 2

How to jump to a particular page in your eBook using the Kindle app in Windows 10

The Kindle app allows you to jump instantly to a specific page in your eBook. There are more ways to do that: one way is to slide the progress bar placed at the bottom of the window forward or backward until you reach the page you want.

The second way is to tap the Go to button from menu placed at the top of the window.

Now, you can jump straight to the Cover, Table of contents (if the eBooks has one), the Beginning or a certain Location.

If you choose the Location option, a text field will appear where you can type the number of the page and click or tap Go, to jump to that page.

You can also jump to one of your markings in the Notebook, such as a bookmark just by pressing it as presented previously.

You can do the same thing in your library, if you right click or press and hold any eBooks there and choose any of the "Go to" options presented there, such as the last page read, table of contents, beginning, page or location or notebook.

How to search for word definitions when reading

If English is not your native language, there may be words or expressions you don't know or understand, and that can ruin your reading experience. Well, the Kindle app allows you to search for word definitions easily.

Select the word by clicking or tapping it, and the New Oxford American Dictionary will display a short definition and the usage in a sentence.

This doesn't only apply to English but also for other languages such as German, Portuguese, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese or Japanese.

How to highlight words and view them using the Kindle app in Windows 10

If you enjoyed a particular passage while reading an eBook, you can always mark it and come back to it anytime you want. To do that, select a passage in your eBooks, and a menu will open just there. At the left, you'll notice some colored dots, where you can choose the color of your highlighted text.

To remove it, select the highlighted passage, and press the "X" button inside the colored dot you previously chose.

To view all your highlights, go to your Notebook and select Highlights from the drop down menu to filter them from your other markings. Press any of the highlights to jump instantly to it.

How to add notes in your eBook using the Kindle app for Windows 10

If the eBooks you are reading are not only for pleasure but also for educational purposes, this feature might come in handy. You can add notes to passages and view them later to help you work on book reports for example.

First, select the passage you want to add the note to and press "Add note" in the menu shown below.

Start typing your note in the text box, and press Save when you're done.

If you want to remove your note, push the small note icon, displayed at the end of the passage.

The note will now open. Press Delete placed at the bottom of the note to remove it.

Similarly to bookmarks and highlights, you can view all your notes in the Notebook where you can also remove them, or jump instantly to the page where they were placed.

How to add and use flashcards using the Kindle app for Windows 10

Flashcards are probably the most interesting feature of this app which can come handy when you study a book. You can add flashcards as you read the book and test yourself at the end and evaluate how much you remember. To add a new flashcard pack, select the Flashcards button from the left menu.

Next, press the "+" button to add a new flashcards deck.

Now, type a name for your new flashcards deck and press OK when you're done.

Now, it's time to add flashcards to your deck. Press the Add a card button placed at the right.

Start typing the front and the backside of your flashcard and press Save or Save and Add Another Card if you wish to add more. Repeat this steps until your flashcards pack has as many cards as you want.

If you want to use the flashcards to test your knowledge on the book, go to the Flashcards menu on the left and click or tap the deck you created.

At the right, your flashcards will be displayed one by one. Click or tap a card to see the back side and if you got it right, mark it as correct and if you didn't, mark it as incorrect.

In the end, the score you managed to get will be displayed.
