Thank you for the explanation as to why it changed, it has bugged me for ages and that was clear and concise and so damn obvious I should have realised myself. Though Microsoft should really have enabled both options rather than inconvenience early adopters by making them have to change their ways!

Not great if my volume up botton is not working (totally came off on Nokia Lumia 520).
Could there perhaps not be an alternative such as Windows Power & Camera button?

This change in functionality is proof that Windows Phone developers are complete idiots. OR maybe they just sublet all their work to India I don’t know.
I can’t imagine smart programmers not saying “Hey , what if this is on a phone without the windows start button, then what?”

    • TVJohn says:

Can’t deny that some of the WP devs are idiots but to be fair the original WP hardware specification mandated the three keys at the bottom of the screen. It’s only with the advent of very cheap phones like the 530 that these were allowed to be removed.

Says who?? A moron who doesn’t understand the difference between outsourcing and subletting..?? Now i know why american companies do not trust the home grown talent… 😉

I have a 920 running 8.1 and the above procedure for screenshots doesn’t work. There is a click as though something has happened but no screenshot can be found.

  5. TVJohn says:

Just tried it on my 920, running 8.1. It created an album called ‘Screenshots’ and put the picture there. When plugged into my PC this appears as [MyLumia920]PhonePicturesScreenshots.

    Hope that helps.

I have a 735 and since the update everytime I press my Power button it comes up with the “something’s changed” message and wont let me use my power button for its actual function; of locking my phone or powering down. I can’t even start up the screen without plugging it in for charge. Can you help me?

  7. TVJohn says:

@GPDuck: I’d suggest a soft reboot. Press and hold the volume down and power buttons for ten seconds.

Volume UP button and Power button at the same for Windows Phone 10

Windows phones are terrible. Nothing is easy on these phones and the sad part is they had the opportunity to see what works for both iPhones and Android phones and come out with the best stuff. Instead they are trying to reinvent the wheel. Why can’t they have a easier way to take screen shots. Very often these power and volume buttons go bad due to repeated use. They should have had something on the screen. Like if you press with your finger on a part or corner of the screen which gives you options like take screen shot, copy, etc.
