How to Change the Ringtones in Windows Phone
Customizing our phones is something we all like. It helps set us apart from others and lets us know when it's our phone that's ringing, and not someone else's. If we all used the default ringtones that come with our phones, it would be hard to identify which one is ringing. That's why, in this guide, I would like to show how to customize the ringtone of your Windows Phone smartphone. I will show how to change the ringtone only for a specific person and how to change the default ringtone for all of your contacts.
NOTE: The procedures shown in this article work in Windows Phone 7.5, 7.8 and 8.
How to Change the Ringtone for a Specific Contact
First, you need to open to the contact you have in mind. On the Start screen, tap the People tile or simply go to People in the app list.
Open the list with all your contacts.
Then, search for the contact you want to customize or scroll until you find it. Then, tap on it to open all its details. The contact's profile is now shown. On the bottom of the screen, tap Edit.
Scroll down until you find the ringtone entry and tap on it.
You are asked to choose a new ringtone. The currently assigned ringtone is shown at the top.
You can preview each ringtone by taping on the play icon near its name. Try some other ringtones. When you find the one you wish to use, tap on its name. The selected ringtone is now associated with your contact. There is no need to save the contact, in order for the change to be applied.
How to Change the Default Ringtone in Windows Phone
Go to Settings.
Then, go to System and tap on ringtones + sounds.
Tap the Ringtone entry to see a list with all the available ringtones.
Here too, you can preview the available ringtones by tapping on the play icon near their name.
Once you know the ringtone you want to use, tap on it to set it as the new default.
