I would like the active spell checker as I use Windows, MS Office, Windows Live and so on to have ENGLISH (Ameican) as the default language.
On the other hand my KEYBOARD is SWEDISH (layout). I have been able to do this before. I would set the language as English and the keyboard as Swedish.
I must have done something unknowingly BUT now it is NOT working as I wish. Now if the keyboard is English it will spell check in English AND my KEYBOARD LAYOUT will be wrong because I don’t have an English (American) keyboard – I have a Swedish keyboard. If on the other hand I set the keyboard to Swedish (Control panel – Language Bar), then the layout is correct but the spell checker will mark all the English words as mispelled or not existent. I want the language and regional setting for money and date and so on for English (American) and the keyboard layout in SWEDISH because my physical keyboard is Swedish. What do I have to do in Windows 7 ???

If I understood correctly what you need, then go to the Add Input Language window. There, scroll to English (United States), open it, go to Keyboard and click on Show More. Now you will see all possible keyboard layouts which are supported. Select Swedish, click OK and you are done.

None of this is working for me. My new laptop came with a British keyboard as the default and even when I add US in the list, and click Add, etc., I still get the English pound symbol instead of the # which is in most of my passwords!! I’m infuriated! HELP! Please.

In the “Text Services and Input Languages” settings window, under the “Advanced Key Settings”, I change the key sequence for the desired keyboard to Ctrl + 1, and it works, but after a reboot it resets to “(none)”. Anyone know how to keep it as default?

I am working for a Swedish client, being an Indian it was very difficult for me. I followed your step and changed the keyboard setting. It is working fine now. Thank u so much!!!!!!!

Let’s face it… It is just impossible without a third party tool, unless you are satisfied with the extremely limited options the system offers.

Have you ever tried to press ALT + LEFT Shift in Outlook? Try it, see what happens, and tell me afterwards how easy it is to manage keyboard layout, ok?… Also try to switch from US to DE keyboard using the grave accent option. Then try to switch back. How about that? Still easy?…

If everything is so easy, tell me please how can I CUSTOMISE that input language switching sequence. Tell me how I can change it for isntance to CTRL+SHIFT+1 to toggle between DE and EN, using the same combination of keys. And don’t give me a workaround please.

Again, please be helpful and kind and tell us how we can define our own TOGGLE sequence for changing input language. Again, it’s about using the SAME sequence to toggle languages, not two different combinations “To English…” and “To German…”.

it should be nice if M$ solves the “advanced key” bug (did you try to change key sequences?) and save us the time to edit binary settings files and registry keys…
This bug is still there in Win7 after all these years, and today, installing win10 for somebody, I found it came to win10 too… 🙂
