” If you really want to use speech recognition with all your favorite software, you’d be much happier with commercial speech recognition software like Dragon Naturally Speaking. ” Disagree with this statement. DNS was so bad I had to take it out.

Speech Recognition, though not perfect, is better IMO.

Marte Brengle

I’m glad to hear it worked so well for you.

doreet77

yes, i removed microsoft software-speech-recognition–i tried to install Dragon, home, version 9,(the best one) did not work; it won’t work with windows 7.I uninstalled it. my computer repairman, who said it would work,no longer is my repairman.–the little jerk doesn’t know s___t. HE TOLD ME,to use version 9. now, i have no dictationware; even commercial stuff is BAD,ALL REVIEWS SAY SO.–THEY ARE RIGHT!!! we have a “junk-software-epidemic” going on,over all. Apple may benefit. –shmirk.

Windows 8.2. New system. Completed Windows speech recognition setup twice. Successful voice recognition/training both times. First time, I uploaded results to MS; second time I skipped that. Microphone status button/window never appears. How do I get the microphone to appear?

Marte Brengle

On a brand new system, I’d suggest that your first step should be to talk with the computer’s tech support. There may be system specific issues at work here.

Is there a way to make a voice recognition work with Google chrome, I don’t have much of a problem using at as a matter of fact and very happy with it but recently I’ve had to install Google chrome in order to do my online class and my online class requires me to use a discussion board, but using Google chrome I cannot use my discussion board so I have to improvise by opening note pad dictating what I want then copying and pasting it.
I’m using a headset and microphone and upgraded to windows 8.1.
Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Bobby.

Marte Brengle

Unfortunately, the voice recognition works best with Microsoft products and it does not appear that they’re making any effort to make it more compatible with other programs.

It might be that commercial software like Dragon Naturally Speaking would solve this problem for you. It is rather expensive, but if you depend on voice recognition for your work it might be worth the investment. Unfortunately, there is no trial version available.

I am working on a Windows .I keep getting the a message saying ” The recognizer language does not match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in Speech Recognition control panel under advance options.” I keep following what it says and it always ends the same way. I have even tried to switch between the languages I have to see if it works. Does anyone know what I should do?

Marte Brengle

What language are you using for Windows? Check to see what that is, and then check the speech recognition language. For example, one might be English from the USA and the other might be English from the UK. The speech recognition engine expects certain accents according to what it’s set at, and “hears” the speech accordingly.

Patricia Huddleston

Thank you I just tried setting them both to English for the USA and I still got the same message. I’m really confused now. If you have any other ideas as to what it may be; I am all ears. Thanks again for trying.

Marte Brengle

I’m sorry, I don’t know. I’d suggest checking with Microsoft to see if they have answers. This web page seems to have the information you’ll need to talk with the right people.

Patricia Huddleston

Thank you very much for all of your help. I am sorry for any trouble. Thanks again.

Marte Brengle

No trouble at all. I’m just sorry I didn’t have the answer.

When I insert a punctuation mark, it inserts a space between the last word and the comma or punctuation mark.

James

Training scripts are canned and limited. MS needs to provide facility for users to enter their own training scripts, which would have the vocab they use most, and have SR train with those. As it is, after training several times, SR still misinterprets many many words.

Shane Ellis

The training scripts *must* be canned. They are creating a rounded profile of various sounds. You can train individual words, though. Are you Scottish by chance?

James

If I were Scottish it wouldn’t be by chance.

i got so frustrated with incorrect words, spelling, ect.and the insert box, i uninstalled the program.worse,”windows support community” expert blamed it all on me. and THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS HOW TO FURTHER TRAIN IT TO YOUR voice! THIS is the first thing that’s told me how to do it! YOU are the only source of help–Windows told me to “go get Windows 10” instead! they DON’T WANT to help you use their stuff! If APPLE can do a lot better than Microsoft, Bill Gates will be buying an Apple himself! I AM SO FED UP WITH MICROSOFT! I’d buy an Apple tomarrow, if i could get rid of all the Microsoft problems! I might go buy a Dragon naturally speaking Version 9, it’s a lot better for instructions than Windows.(The later versions are not good, tho.) Tech-companies, the big ones, have gotten much worse, generally I find. it scares me. 🙁

Shane Ellis

How did you uninstall this? I can’t seem to find out how to do that (I would like to reinstall).

Dick Hahn

Bite the Bullet!! Change your speech recognition program to Dragon. I tried the Windows brand for two day!! Terrible! I had upgraded my computer to 7 and my old Dragon would not work on it. That’s why I tried the Windows program. I needed to upgrade the Dragon program so that it would work on 7 and it was certainly worth it. I is even better than the old Dragon Program I had before.. Make sure you have a GOOD MIC. This makes a great deal of difference.

Recently I had my pc looked at and at the time I used Vista Ultimate and had no problem at all with windows speech recognition, but since the PC repairman put Windows 7 on I cant get the speech recognition software to start, when I try to open it the program just goes straight to off. Do you have any suggestions please?

Raeann

I recorded a full hour with the speech to text feature and when I “inserted” it at the end, it only transferred 23 words. Is there any way to get the full recording back?

tdh

The speech recognition does not recognize sibilants. For example, “stool” is interpreted as tool, spelling does not work for “s.” What to do?

Catherine

Every time I say ” stop listening ” or ” only listen for start listening ” it will go to that mode and if I start talking (I kind of am always talking because I am quadriplegic) the speech recognition will then turn off automatically. Is there a way to prevent this?

Polly

Yes I’m using Speech recognition… when it lets me! I just can’t get it started without a lot of messing about, so that if it does pop up on the screen I can’t remember how I got it.
Start, search, speech recognition, start speech recognition does nothing! Up to now turning everything off, waiting, then turning on again has worked, but that’s let me down now… pooh…

Julie

I am on Windows 7. I have worked through the tutorial for voice recognition and it heard me fine, but now I’ve come to use it in Word, it only writes in numbers and other characters. For example, here I’ve just said ‘It won’t recognise my voice’ and it’s typed: 1(9:)*
I’m mystified – anyone know what’s going on please?
Thank you.

RJ Johnson

The speech recognition program keeps inserting a lot of “the’s and “if’s into the text. If I move the microphone more than 4 inches from my mouth and nose, it has trouble picking up my speech. When the mike is closer, it adds if and the whenever I breathe. Since not breathing is no an option, what should I do?
