The Trip to 18 Months of 7 Tutorials

We've started our 18 months celebration with a giveaway for our readers. Today it is time to share with you the details about the story we've written and lived in the last 6 months, since our 1 Year Anniversary. How are we doing in terms of traffic, subscribers, top-stories, highlights and future plans? If you are interested about this subject, read on to find out more.

The Key Numbers - Subscribers, Traffic, Browsers, Countries

I would like to start with what we consider to be the most important metric: the number of subscribers via RSS and e-mail. We've managed to grow to 1431 RSS subscribers (40% increase vs. our 12 months celebration) and 634 e-mail subscribers (23% increase vs. our 12 months celebration). It is a pretty healthy increase and we are happy to see more and more people reading us on a regular basis. We've also got 205 Facebook fans (50% increase vs. our 12 months celebration).

When it comes to traffic, the stats are as follows: 590426 visits and 864536 pageviews. This means an average of 98404 visits and 144089 pageviews per month. This is approximately 25% more traffic in the last six months than in our first whole year of existence. Encouraging numbers indeed. A lot left until world domination though. :)

7 Tutorials Traffic

The percentage of traffic coming from search engines has increased even more. Seventy percent of our visitors come to our site from search engines while direct visits represent 11.81%.

When it comes to the browsers our readers use, it seems both Firefox and Internet Explorer have lost ground to Chrome since our 12 month anniversary. Firefox lost 8% which makes it now the second most used browser, behind Internet Explorer which lost only 2%. Chrome gained a whopping 7% in only six months. Safari and Opera also gained a bit of ground but they are very distant in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

7 Tutorials Traffic

When it comes to countries where 7 Tutorials is most popular, the list is not very surprising and it did not change much since our last review. Our visitors come from mostly English-speaking countries: United States, United Kingdom and Canada. The number of visitors from India and South Africa has grown, these countries now bringing more visitors to our website.

We are happy that Romania (the country where the founders of this website are based) is still in the top 10.

Top 5 Most Read Articles

In terms of popular articles, the list is as follows:

How to Connect to Wireless Networks

How to Burn DVD's with Windows DVD Maker

Make Vodafone Mobile Connect & Huawei Modems Work on Windows 7

How to Connect to Hidden Wireless Networks

Top 7 Desktop Gadgets

Unfortunately not much has changed when it comes to our most popular articles. The challenge for us will be to come up with new content to compete with the very successful tutorials which are now at the top of the list.

Highlights of the Last 6 Months

First we tried to reward our readers with a few give-aways: 3 licenses of Kaspersky Internet Security 2011, a whooping 20 licenses of Panda Internet Security 2011, and now 5 licenses of BitDefender Internet Security 2011 and 2 signed copies of our latest book Network Your Computers & Devices Step by Step.
If you sum up the value of these giveaways you get to more than 1400 USD worth of prizes for our readers. Not bad, is it?

The truly big highlight for us in the last 6 months is the launch of our first book. Initially we hoped to publish an eBook. Fortunately we managed to sign a contract with the prestigious Microsoft Press division of O'Reilly Media. And now our first book is available in any format (print or digital), can be found on various Amazon websites and be ordered from almost anywhere in the world. If you are curious to know more about the book and how to get your hands on it (with a discount, of course), check out this page: Network Your Computers & Devices Step by Step - Worldwide Availability Starting Today!.

On the less positive side, Vanessa Vasile left our team due to changes and new challenges both in her personal life and career. Also, we did not manage to get featured on any big websites such as Lifehacker as our focus drifted towards the book. This should be a focus area for us for the next few months.

What is Next?

We've got plenty of ideas for the future - too many for the little time we have between our daily jobs and our family time. Luckily, there are some things we will do for sure:

  • Continue to show our love for our subscribers by publishing even more useful tutorials and product giveaways.
  • Expand our team of editors. We've already posted a few announcements for openings. If you are interested in writing with us, don't hesitate to let us know.
  • Re-launch our Genuine Help series with a new and improved format.
  • Cover new areas outside Windows 7 and home networking. This depends a lot on how successful we are at enlarging our team of editors. More to come as we expand our team.
  • Market our first book and plan the work on our second book. We have some crazy ideas for new books. We will share more once they are better crystallized.
