have you ever tried to receive on the laptop any files larger then 160kb from your phone?
for exemple , try to transfer a song of about 3-4 mb ( or anything larger than 1mb) and u’ll see that it stops at 160kb and you will get a message saying that the “transfer was insuccesful”

why is this happening? 🙁
i search all over google for answers but with no luck
on every laptop i installed windows 7 i get this kind of error
and btw..how can i turn off bluetooth from with in windows 7 :)? there’s no turn off button for the bluetooth except for the Disable Device from Device Manager

saman

hi,
I have the same problem.I’ve searched everywhere but can’t find any solution.if you’ve found how to solve this problem please share with me.
thanks.

You should try this resource on TrendMicro mobile device management, it provides a lot of information on what’s allowed and what’s not allowed in data transfer, I found a lot of explanations to my mobile device problems there. I hope you’ll find it helpful too!

Hi, i have just bought the Bluetooth device today and it worked fine for me. I was able to transfer more than 10mb of file within seconds and i was really amazed with the kind of speed the data is being transmitted. I use Windows Vista 64bit and it worked fine for me.
I think it should work fine with Windows 7 as well.

To answer to ur question, plug in the bluetooth device and give it 2-3 minutes time to install the device driver software and once that is done you should see the bluetooth icon on the system tray. Next switch on your blutooth on your mobile and see if you can see the name of the computer.. if you have established till this step then the rest is easy…else you need to remove the bluetooth device from ur laptop/pc and plug it in again and retry…

I am sure it should work…Good Luck!! Alex…

Have you fixed this problem? I can’t send files larger than 160kb too 🙁

Anonymous

The button or switch on your computer that turns your wifi off and on also controls the bluetooth on most laptops. See if that works for you. You will notice a large power savings when the wifi and bluetooth are off which is nice.

Tatjana

I HAD the same problem with Nokia 300, and have read on other forum about small program, and IT WORKS!!!!! So let start from the beggining….

Download OBEX commander at
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/OBEX-Commander-Download-127697.html
it’s free. Simply connect and you can transfer any file regardless of size. Just one thing, don’t use drag&drop, it doesn’t work, you have to select files and click on the icon in between panels, GET or PUT. I hope it helps for all phones, good luck!

Dennis

Hi, and thanks for this article, it’s very clear.
Do you know if there is a way to transfer a file to the pc without having to tell the pc that a file is coming? I had this working in XP with drivers from the manufacturers (a-link blueusb21) cd, but the drivers dont seem to work properly in W7. For me, having to first click on the pc to send a file from the mobile really ruins this function :(.

Thanks.
Dennis

hi there.

can anybody tells me why every time I want to send a file via bluetooth theres no option for it. For example I want to send a picture to my mobile phone, I right click the picture and click the “Send to” and theres ALSWAYS a “blueetooth” option, but recently, when I tried to send it, theres no bluetooth option. can someone please tell me how to fix this problem??

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

This can happen because your Bluetooth is disabled/turned off on your computer.

Don’t I have an option other than always clicking ‘Receive a File’?
Because when tranfering multiple files, it gets too irrtating!

Gaurang

It is limitation of Windows machine. It can receive only one file at a time via Bluetooth.
However, there is a workaround available when you are sending files from Android or any Java Enable phone. Please refer below link,

http://www.goospoos.com/2012/10/send-multiple-files-via-bluetooth-fom-mobile-to-pc/

mkupper

As constantly clicking ‘Receive a File’ was a pain I wrote a batch file to help automate the process. I’ve included that below.

I added a link to this batch file on my desktop and for the icon I used the Bluetooth icon that’s in %SystemRoot%System32fsquirt.exe

@echo off
setlocal
rem
rem This batch file is used to receive files from Bluetooth phones. My phone
rem can only send one file at a time. This made for a lot of
rem clicking/selecting on both the phone and computer to send a file. I
rem wrote this batch file to automate the computer side. What it does is to
rem count the number of files currently in the receive folder and to start
rem the Bluetooth file receiver application. When you exit from file
rem receiver application this batch file counts the number of files again
rem and if it has changed it restarts the Bluetooth file receiver
rem application.
rem
rem To exit out of the loop you press [Cancel] in the Bluetooth file
rem receiver. The batch file will see that the number of files did not
rem change and exit.
rem
rem Set RXDIR to the folder where you receive files. Microsoft defaults to
rem using the Documents folder. As 99% of the files I transfer off the phone
rem are pictures I chose to download to the Pictures folder.
rem
set RXDIR=%USERPROFILE%Pictures
start explorer.exe “%RXDIR%”
call :countfiles
:loop
echo Receive folder has %NUMFILES% files.
set XNUMFILES=%NUMFILES%
start “Bluetooth file transfer” /WAIT “%SystemRoot%System32fsquirt.exe” -receive
call :countfiles
if “%NUMFILES%” NEQ “%XNUMFILES%” goto :loop
goto :eof

:countfiles
set NUMFILES=0
for %%i in (“%RXDIR%*”) do call :addfile
goto :eof
:addfile
set /A NUMFILES+=1
goto :eof

@Anonymous 08/30/2010 – 09:02

You did first click on receive file in the bluetooth options before u sent the file from the phone right? Not doing that will lead to the phone throwing error when u try to send a file.

nayl

this receive file option dose not appear also the send file option!!
so what can i do?

laopa

Well, you bluetooth system is corrupted or conflicted with windows os. Just uninstall your bluetooth drivers installer from programs. Uninstall everything you found in device manager about bluetooth like bluetooth peripheral device ( Make sure EVERYTHING about bluetooth) . RESTART your comp and try to clear the cache. Download the driver pack from vendor . For example, for boardcom, http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/downloaddrivers.php.
Remember do not run any installer and open device manager and update drive on the particular unknown device and choose the driver that you download. Then you should see the option for send a file and receive a file.

hi,

great article, thanks.
however, i did not manage to receive files from my phone to my laptop. i am able to send files laptop-to->handphone, but not to receive handphone->laptop. transfer not completed, it said. please help.

First, it’s a must to thank for such an excellent and comprehensive how-to article. I and lots and lots of other people, I believe, appreciate it.

I happened to have some trouble with bluetooth, and would appreciate some help here:
When right clicking the bluetooth icon, I get a menu with no ‘Send a File’ and ‘Receive a File’ entries (i.e. the menu will only show 6 entries namely ‘Add a Device’, ‘Allow a Device to Connect’, ….. , ‘Open Settings’, and ‘Remove Icon’ ). To send a file to a mobile device, I thus have added a shortcut to fsquirt.exe in ‘System32 folder’ in the ‘Send To’ folder of my Username. In the past, my system works perfectly. Then I decided to try the trial BlueSoleil bluetooth software. After uninstallation of the software, and manually reverted to the MS stack, bluetooth did not function at all. I had to researched the internet and reenabled and started Bluetooth Support services (I was informed that such Bluetooth service had been disabled by BlueSoleil). Now I can send and receive files via Bluetooth; but not via the said Bluetooth menu that pops up when right clicking the Bluetooth icon.
Any suggestion.
Thanks

Shyam

Hi,

Thanks so much for sharing the detailed instructions. After coming across this post I was inspired to throw up a list of confirmed blue tooth devices that work with windows 7. I didn’t test these myself, but I trust this wiki more than I trust myself: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/earphones/List_of_Working_Bluetooth_Devices

hi
there is no hp integrated module in my laptop??!!
what do i do next??

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

If there is no integrated Bluetooth module in your laptop, you need to buy an external adapter, such as this one: Jabra A320s Bluetooth Adapter

rohit

HP integrated module comes with win 7 or not

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

When we say “integrated module” in this context, we talk about a hardware component – a Bluetooth module integrated by manufacturers in some of their laptop models.
Therefore, an HP Bluetooth integrated module cannot “come with Windows 7”. It comes with your laptop, if HP decided to include such a device in your laptop. If that’s the case, Windows 7 should detect it and install the appropriate drivers for it. In case it cannot detect it & install it correctly, you need to manually download the drivers for it and install them yourself.

raceir

very very helpful..thanks..i can now transfer file from my phone to my laptop..

Excellent tutorial –

My problem is: – the ‘send a file’ and ‘receive a file’ are missing in the context menu from the notification area and missing from the ‘send to’ context menu. Bluetooth devices ok – dell laptop using 365 wireless module. Would appreciate some input. Updated bluetooth drivers and updated BIOS.

I use Windows 7 & try to receive a file from Samsung cell phone.

Hello,

first of all I’d like to thank you for this great article. My question is related to a bluetooth file transfer acciddent, which results in loosing my received files.

After I got some files from my phone to my windows7 computer via bluetooth, instead of pressing Finish button, I accidentally use Close button of the windows. Since windows should have been received files into the computer before the Finish button is clicked, I guess the files must be somewhere in my harddisk (in some form of course).

So, my question is, do you know where windows 7 keeps files which are received via Bluetooth File Transfer temporaryly? Where is the temporary location that Windows 7 keeps files before we click Finish? And how can I find my files, if this is possible?

Please help…

Thank you very much

Medih Kanbur

Charlie

Hi there! I’m kind of having the same problem here. Have you found any answers to this yet? If yes, please let me know ([email protected]). Thanks in advance!

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

In this tutorial, if you look carefully, you see that there is a step where you are asked about the location where files will be saved. You can specify any location you want. By default, this location is your Documents folder.

Charlie

Thanks, Ciprian! Please see my other comment posted last night. You will find the details there and see what my real problem is…

Solution found! And it’s free!

Just downloaded Obex Commander 1.9.2 from http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/OBEX-Commander-Download-127697.html and it works! Transferring files from phone to PC now.

ty!

Indeed, thank you for this solution, it is working! it’s very easy to use, it somehow sets the connection itself, allows the transfer of multiple files and i would say it’s pretty fast as well. i’m only talking like a regular computer user, but this solution is great! Thanks again! (note: i had the same problem, with file transfer via bluetooth)

Tatjana

KS you are the KING! IT WORKS!!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING THIS INFO!!!

I am not able to send a file from my phone(Samsung L700) to my acer laptop.
I can receive files from my laptop to phone.

Krishna

I recently bought a Sony Vaio (VPCEB44EN) laptop.
Initially the bluetooth transfer functioned correctly.
But today I noticed that the Send File and the Receive file options are not coming when the bluetooth icon is rightclicked in the system tray.
Also the Bluetooth File Transfer option is not showing up in the Start menu search when i typed bluetooth.
Why did it disappear suddenly ??!

Can you plz help me out with this one…..

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

You might have turned off the Bluetooth chip accidentally. Usually laptops have a button or slide for turning on and off Bluetooth and Wireless. Check that the Bluetooth switch is turned on.

Hi,

Adding device (imate) to my laptop worked fine.
Then sending files did not work; i kept getting the following message:
Windows was unable to transfer some files
None in fact.

I open Windows Mobile device center (application that came with my imate) but cannot connect to my imate (it is configured to connected through BT)

I browse my computer and can’t see my imate.

Hi,

I am using HP Pavilion dv6 6077sa laptop with Windows 7 SP1 64 bit Home version.

In the beginning i was able to transfer files from my Samsung Android Mobile to Laptop and vice versa. But for the last 2 days I am not able to send files from Mobile to Laptop. My Phone says “Unable to connect to remote device” or “Request Rejected by remote device”.

Bu i am able to transfer files from my Laptop to my Mobile phone. There is actually a one way transfer is happening.

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

I think that, in such a situation it is better to reset the whole connection & pairing and created it again, from the beginning. It might help in solving your problem.

Tarun Jai

Yes. I have done that too… I have unpaired and paired it again… Still the same issue persists…

kala

you are the best

Thanks much for the informative article.

I have a Bluetooth capable camera phone that I used to email pictures to my computer with. (This process, of course did not use any Bluetooth capability) I have since had texting (and all other extra cost functions) disabled on my phone. Since disabling texting, I am unable to email pictures from the phone to my computer and my phone’s camera is thus worthless. Is texting capability necessary to transfer pictures from phone to computer via Bluetooth?

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

Texting has nothing to do with Bluetooth. Your phone needs to have a Bluetooth chip inside. The same with your computer.

john3347

Yes, I understand that texting and bluetooth are totally different technologies and understand their their different functions. (My question may not be completely appropriate for this article, but is relevant.) I have a bluetooth enabled Palm Centro phone. I also have a bluetooth enabled Compaq nc6400 laptop and I have an HP bt500 bluetooth USB adapter that can be installed on a desktop (or laptop without an OEM installed adapter). My question is really a question of whether direct photo transfer via bluetooth requires texting to be enabled on the phone. I cannot email a photograph from my phone without texting enabled. My question is: Can I direct transfer from phone to computer via bluetooth without having texting enabled. Bluetooth configuration is anything but simple plug-and-play and I would like to know I could expect success before I jump through all the hoops necessary to configure the bluetooth devices.

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

The answer is yes – you can transfer your photos, music & other type of files via Bluetooth.

henry

Loads of people here saying the same thing: we haven’t got the option send file or receive file. You say you will post a tutorial in the next few days: please do we are desperate for it

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

The tutorial we mentioned has been published. You can find it here: Connecting Smartphones to Your PC via Bluetooth Device Control.

I have connected the phone via cable, memory card and blue tooth but every time I transfer the video file I loose the sound. Do you have any suggestions on how to get it back or modify the settings so it doesn’t get lost?

Tatjana

Same thing happend to me Marie, but I was playing it with Media player. When I opened it in VLC or BSPlayer sound is OK. Have you tried that?

Gerard Armando

The share tab is not available… i’m susing win7 ultimate sp1… How can i enable it?

nithya

hi,

Please give me the solution for the below problem. I have transferred the video file from my mobile to laptop. but no sound is coming if am playing the video file in laptop but it works well in mobile.

Please help as this is the very important video file

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

You either need a codec for that movie file, so that the player you are using generates the sound or, your sound is muted in general.
What file type does the movie have?

Tatjana

Nithya open it in VLC or BSPlayer (new version with all codecs) it worked for me….

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

Try this other article then: http://www.digitalcitizen.life/connecting-smartphones-your-computer-bluetooth-device-control

Unfortunately Bluetooth support is implemented in many different ways. 🙁
There is no real standardization and this causes lots of problems to users.

Rajat Ghosh

i would like to the following facts for security reason.

01. is there any log file exists that gives me a list of files that is being exported from my computer and imported to my computer.

02. Is there anyway to stop the transfer of files via bluetooth.

Please remember that this machine is used by multiple personality.

Looking for your suggestion. Please mail me at [email protected]

yussifjalluu

please wich website can i download the bluetooth file transfer original.

rima

This site really helped me in transferring images from mobile to pc and vice versa. Thanks

Charlie

My file transfer works fine, my problem is not there.

When transferring an MP4 file from my mobile to the PC today, the download path (“Location”) that was suggested for saving the file was the last one I had used, so I didn’t change it and pressed “Finish”. It was a file named A_01 on my Desktop. Then I turned my mobile’s Bluetooth function Off and, as I usually do to save card space, I deleted the original (just transferred) video file from the phone. Only AFTER deleting it did I realise that the video file was nowhere to be found on my PC. The suggested “Location” file A_01 no longer existed on my Desktop, since I had moved it a few days ago and forgot about that. So the download path was no longer correct and a new file A_01 was not automatically created on my Desktop for saving that video file when I pressed “Finish”.

So my question is, WHERE DID MY VIDEO FILE GO? How can I recover it, since I’ve already deleted it from my mobile phone?

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

Can’t say. Simply search for the file on your entire hard disk and see what Windows finds and where.

Tom Pam

Hi,
My issue is that although the smartphone and laptop is paired but it did not seem to connect, would any one knows why? any suggestion or instruction would be much appreciated.

NOTE: Under the Bluetooth setting there are only 3 tabs on my win7 system rather 5 like the screenshot sample shown above, “Share, PIM Interface” tabs are missing
Options, COM Ports, Hardware, Share, PIM Interface.

Jules Benedict Castillon
