Tags not showing up. I scanned and tagged almost 600 pictures and the other day when I opened up Windows Live Photo Gallery I could see my tags and captions in the pane on the right, but when I open pictures and hover over a face the tags aren’t showing up? What did I do? Can I get them back some how? Thanks.

Andrew

This seems like quite a neat feature! I’ve been looking for something like this, and so far its working well.

Do you know if it works the other direction as well? I mean, after uploading photos, if people add new tags to ones I didn’t have, that it would carry back to the pictures on my computer?

Conrad

So what? I now have tagged all the people in all my pictures from way back in history but I still have no profile-pictures automated redirection to my mail contacts. That would be so useful, to see the face I’m mailing with. However, I can’t find the box to tick to make it happen. What should I do?

Kaitlyn

Today as I have been tagging people for some I’ll have the option to tag them with the tag I created for them and one for FB, I guess– and then some it shows it’s still connected to FB network even if only one tag/name available. If I tag people with this FB network stuff going on, does it upload them to FB or let people know I have tagged them? Because I don’t want to do that with all my pics– just the ones I actually upload to FB.

In Picasa I can see all of the portrait photos I have identified as a given person. In Windows Photo Gallery I can not see the portrait photos of the people I have tagged. This is a huge short coming.

is there a way to take the individual images you’ve tagged and save each as an individiual image file? i have id’d all of the people in a large group photo and would like to use the individual photos to create some jib-jab greeting cards

Did you ever get your question answered? I’m doing a project at work where a person took various pictures and then on the one person’s name download that into photo life now I’m having the problem to be able to take one picture from the string of pictures to be able to label it by itself but do not know how.

Chip

Yeah I’m not entirely sure I even know what this is supposed to do. Image formats don’t have a place in them to do this? So where is the data about names stored in the file?

It’s incompatible with other applications therefore typical microsoft or am I missing something?

Marte Brengle

It’s not incompatible with other applications. The tag is stored in the image’s metadata.

The problem appears to arise due to the way Photo Gallery stores this data. Microsoft is looking into this.

Here is a discussion from the Microsoft Community that might address the problem.

Somehow I got hundreds of faces marked as Kathy. How do I delete Kathy from People Tag without going through every picture and either Tag as someone else or Remove tag?

Marte Brengle

Unfortunately, I don’t know of any way to remove tags all at once. You’ll probably want to look at the photos anyway to determine whether the Kathy tag is appropriate for each one. Windows Photo Gallery just isn’t quite as sophisticated as some other photo software, but then again it wasn’t designed to be.

When looking at a thumbnail of a face is there a way to quickly view the full image? Some of the faces are not clear in the small size but I could identify if I saw the full photo.

Marte Brengle

The way I have done this is to choose Edit from the Home tab, then select the photo or photos I’d like to see larger. Choosing Resize from the Edit menu will let you make them larger. You don’t have to save the image at its new size.

By the way, as a point of information, I have been using Thumbs Plus for many years, but just recently started “playing” with WPG.

I’m using 2012 under Windows 8.1.

Now that I have found this forum you are forewarned that I will likely have a flood of “newbe” questions.

Marte Brengle

We welcome questions of all kinds! Glad you’re here!

If I add a people tag to the back of someone’s head, or on a side view, does that distort the ability for Photo Gallery to determine who that person is in other photos?

Marte Brengle

Photo Gallery works by using facial recognition. If you tag the side of someone’s face or the back of their head, there isn’t much of a face to recognize. I don’t believe it will affect the recognition of full faces in other photos.

Can tags be printed on the picture?

Ted

I’m also using tags. But where is the tag (and photo description) info stored? In the picture? Directory?

Rena

Can you use the Batch tag process just for a certain folder instead of it going through all the pictures?

Barry

I have about 9000 photos and the batch worked well for about the first 4000 photos then is stopped looking at the rest of the photos. I have tried the select all but it still won’t look. I can individually go into each photo and tag the people but how do I get batch to look at the rest of the photos?

Susan suemap@aol.com

I’d like to be able to go into a list of the names of all the people I have tagged, rather than look at all the tiny (often misrepresentative photos) to find the photos I have tagged for a particular person. This does not seem possible in Photo Gallery. I can “add a tag”, and thereby see the list of tagged people. But I can’t seem to do a people search by typing in a name.

For example: I wanted to show my sister the photos I had of her granddaughter, but I can’t just type in that child’s name. I have to look through all the tiny photos to find her.

I have just started tagging a few of my 121,636 photos, and already have 80 people tagged. In a practical way therefore, this face-recognition/tagging-by-name feature is useless.

A-ha, as I write this complaint (about an otherwise almost excellent product), I see that the photos are arranged alphabetically, but one has to hover for a moment or two before the name shows up. Am I missing something? There must be a better way to find people!

An EXCELLENT version of this would play my .wav files while viewing the individual photos. My camera has this most appreciated feature of allowing an immediate 30 seconds of sound capture after each photo is snapped. Great for catching background ambiance, music, children’s voices, sounds in nature (birds, waterfalls, etc), or just a description (ie,”our room at the Washington Hotel in Oakland”, or “most unusual shower head”.) Not many photo viewers have this feature, and few of the newer cameras. Yes, you can get sound by making a movie, but that takes lots of kb, and the wav files by comparison are tiny and usually do the trick.

To view all your pics sorted by People, click the View tab, and then on Person. Then, all your pics are grouped by person. Scroll down to the person you want to see, and there you have a gallery with all the pics of that person.
