We noticed that many readers coming to our website were searching for how to find the Calculator in Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. Since we did not have a very detailed article on this subject, we decided to create one and share the methods you can use to start the Calculator. Here’s how it is done.
1. Create a Desktop Shortcut for Calculator
In all Windows versions, the Calculator has a small executable file, named calc.exe. It is found in
Browse to this location and make a shortcut to it on the Desktop.
Alternatively, you can download its shortcut from our collection: Download The Biggest Library of Windows 7 & Windows 8 Shortcuts.
2. Use Search on the Start Screen
Search is always a fast method for finding anything you need in Windows 8 and 8.1. In Windows 8, go to the Start screen and type calculator. By the type you finish typing this word the Calculator shortcut is displayed.
The same goes for Windows 8.1. The results are displayed differently though. Also, you will see at least two results being returned. That’s because Windows 8.1 includes also a Windows Store app, for users with touch screens.
Don’t forget that you can pin the Calculator to the Start screen, for quick access.
3. Use the Apps View
Both Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 have an Apps View that’s a full-screen Start Menu. There you will find many shortcuts include the one(s) for the Calculator.
In Windows 8, go to the Start screen and right-click somewhere on the available empty space ,or swipe from the bottom of the screen if you are using touch. A contextual menu is shown that includes the All apps button. Click or tap on it.
This opens the Apps view. Scroll to the right, until you find the Windows Accessories folder. There you will see the Calculator shortcut.
In Windows 8.1, the process is a little different. Go to the Start screen and move the cursor to the bottom left side of the screen. An arrow is displayed. Click on it.
Alternatively, you can swipe from the bottom, if you are using touch. The Apps view is displayed, scroll right, until you find the Windows Accessories folder and the Calculator shortcut.
As I mentioned before, in Windows 8.1 you have also an app named Calculator. Its shortcut is found in the Tools folder.
This app is a touch based version of the Calculator that includes many of the features found in its desktop counterpart.
