Dropbox is a very popular cloud storage service that's also present on Windows Phone. One of the things you can do with the Dropbox app for Windows Phone is to lock all your data with a security PIN, so that people who get unauthorized access to your smartphone, don't get access to your data on Dropbox. Here's how to enable this security feature:
How To Set A Security PIN For The Dropbox App In Windows Phone
If you don't want anyone else to be able to open the Dropbox app on your Windows Phone, you can set it to use a security PIN. Once a PIN has been set, the app will ask for it each time it starts.
First of all, open the Dropbox app, by tapping its entry from the Apps view of your Windows Phone.
Then, open the app's menu, by tapping the three dots on the bottom right of the screen.
Now tap the settings option.
On the Settings screen, tap security.
In order to enable the security PIN, tap the Passcode lock switch and set it to On.
The Dropbox app will launch a new screen, where you are asked to enter your passcode. The PIN has 4 digits. You will have to enter them twice.
Once you've set your security PIN, Dropbox will immediately exit its Settings screen. Now, each time the app starts, you will have to enter the PIN you've set.
How To Disable Or Change The Security PIN For The Dropbox App
Disabling the security PIN requires only one action. Go back to the Security screen, and tap the Passcode lock switch in order to set it to Off.
Dropbox will ask you to enter your security PIN. Enter it and the passcode security will be disabled.
If you only want to change your Dropbox PIN, on the same Security screen tap the change passcode button.
You'll need to confirm your choice by entering your old PIN. Then, enter the new passcode that you want to use for Dropbox.
What To Do If You Forgot Your Security PIN?
In case you forgot your PIN, you might wonder what to do in order to get past this problem. There are two things which you can do:
- Uninstall the Dropbox app and then install it again. If you choose to do so, the app will not remember that you previously set a security PIN.
- Make 10 attempts to enter a PIN. It doesn't matter if it's wrong. Once the app reaches 10 incorrect attempts, it will automatically erase the passcode and sign you out of your Dropbox account. Then, you can sign in again, by entering your Dropbox email address and password.
With the help of the security PIN, Dropbox for Windows Phone can ensure the privacy of your data even if you're sharing your smartphone with others. If you choose to use this feature, our recommendation to you is to choose a PIN that is more or less secure. By that, we mean you avoid setting a simple PIN like 1234 or 0000. Choose something that's hard to guess.
