The Wallet app from Windows Phone makes it easy to store and use credit cards, debit cards, membership cards and coupons. The version from Windows Phone 8.1 can also store boarding passes or event tickets. In this tutorial we will share how to add credit or debit cards to your Windows Phone's Wallet so that you can use them to buy apps, music or games from the Store or to make payments via NFC.
NOTE: In order to be able to add a credit or debit card to your Windows Phone Wallet app, you will need to have a working Internet connection.
How to open the Wallet app from Windows Phone
To get access to your wallet, flick to the Apps screen and locate the Wallet app.
If this is the first time you start your Wallet app, you'll get a welcoming screen, similar to the one below. Tap get started to continue.
You are asked to give your permission for this app to access and use your location. This information will be used to show you location relevant alerts for tickets, deals and other items. In order to go ahead, press allow.
How to add a credit or a debit card to your Wallet
In the Wallet app, flick to the All screen. Here you will see listed all the payment methods you have added so far. The list will be empty when you start using this app.
To add a new card, tap the plus button on the bottom of the screen.
In the Add to wallet screen, tap credit or debit.
You'll have the option to choose whether you want to use this card for app and music purchases. Check the checkbox if you wish to, or leave it unchecked you don't. Then, tap Next.
Now it's time to enter your card's details, like its number, expiration date, your name etc. Enter this information exactly as it's found on your card.
Then, after double checking the information that you have entered, tap next.
At this point, you can choose to link your card with other apps that can offer additional information related to it, such as balance, transaction history, contact information, etc. If you don't want to link your card to one of the apps available, simply tap next.
Once you've tapped next, Windows Phone will display your card's details.
Tap the back button on your Windows Phone to go back to the main screen. Here you will also see that the new card has been added to the list of available credit and debit cards.
Also, if you've opted to use this card for app and music purchases, you will be able to use it for this purpose. In another tutorial we will share how to buy the apps, games or music using the information that is stored by the Wallet app.
