Download the Shortcut for the "Shut Down Windows" Menu
Do you need a shortcut to launch the Shut Down Windows menu? If you do, I created one for you to download and use on any Windows computer. It works on all recent versions of Windows, including Windows 8.
Credit: I would like to thank Milan Benes - one of our readers - for asking me to work on this shortcut. Due to his request and help with testing, I managed to create this file.
The Shortcut Is An Executable File
Unfortunately the Shut Down Windows window is not opened by running a specific executable or a specific command. You can open it only using the Alt + F4 keys on your keyboard.
That’s why I had to create a special executable which, first puts the focus to the Windows desktop and then sends the Alt + F4 keys to open the Shut Down Windows window.
You can unzip the attached file, found at the end of this article. If you place it on your desktop, this is how it looks like.
If the setting "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked in Windows Explorer -> Folder Options, then you will see also the extension of the file.
The Shut Down Windows Menu
This is how the Shut Down Windows menu looks like in Windows 7.
And this is how it looks like in Windows 8.
If you click on the drop down box, you will find options also to log off, restart, switch the user, etc.
Some users might not consider this shortcut useful but others will. If you do, don’t hesitate to check the other shortcuts we recommend below.
