If you have returned home soaking wet because the forecast said it will be sunny with 0% chance of rain and you didn't feel like taking an umbrella, this is the right article for you. There's not much you can do about the weather but at least we can keep you informed, so we searched and tested several weather apps to recommend as our top 5. Our choices are primarily focused on weather, can be used for more locations, have good reviews (at least 3 stars), they are free and they look good. Let's see what we have found:
AccuWeather is one of the most popular and accurate weather applications. The version designed for Windows Phone users has the latest news and information and comes with some great features. It includes local forecasts for nearly 3 million global locations in 27 languages. Forecasts include current conditions, hourly forecasts for the next 72 hours, and extended forecasts for the next 15 days.
After installing it, you agree to the license terms, and then type in the location for which you want the weather report. You will notice that the application has some attractive animations which will change along with the weather. You can navigate through menus by swiping on the screen.
The first section of the app is Now. It offers some basic information about current weather conditions displayed with location name and time, temperature, wind speed, wind gust speed and wind direction, precipitation and amounts, humidity, visibility, UV Index, cloud cover, pressure, and AM and PM times for sunrise and sunset.
The next section is called Forecast. It provides a brief summary of what you can expect from the weather over the next 3-5 days for your location.
The section called Hourly comprises hourly forecast for the next 72 hours. The app also includes some fully interactive, full-screen Bing Maps overlaid with AccuWeather's precise weather data, including U.S., Canadian, European, and Japanese radar.
The most interesting section the app has is More. It has some great features like Lifestyle which recommends all kinds of activities that are appropriate to the weather.
In this section you will also find Videos about world forecasts, Settings and Locations where you can add or remove multiple locations.
This app allows you to set customizable live tiles for multiple locations. Also, the lock screen is populated with a beautiful photo illustrating your location's current weather conditions.
2. Blue Skies
Blue Skies is another great weather app for Windows Phone. The best thing about this app is its simplicity and elegance. The app is very easy to use and it's also one of the most accurate.
Blue Skies, like most apps of its type, provides a summary of the next hour, a 24 hour forecast and a 5 day forecast. The app also includes detailed weather information including: precipitation, humidity, wind speed, sunrise, and sunset. It also displays warnings and advisories according to the weather, which you can easily find by swiping through its menus.
You have the possibility to add a transparent live tile to the Start screen. You can also choose how often the live tile is updates, so that you reduce battery consumption.
The app also comes with radar maps which have 3 map options: precipitation, cloud and temperature, for your current location and surrounding areas.
If you're a fan of clean and simple apps but also you want a great design Vieather is the perfect app for you. It provides all basic features a weather app needs like hourly forecast, a summary of the weather for the next six days. The app looks great and we love the colors that are used for the user interface.
One of the downsides of this app is the the fact that you can add only 4 locations.
We find this issue insignificant because there aren't many situations when you will need a forecast for more than 4 locations at the same time.
Like any other respectable Windows Phone application, Vieather offers a transparent live tile.
4. MSN Weather
The MSN Weather app is suitable for you if you want lots of information. This app offers quick access to 10-day and hourly forecasts, forecasts from multiple trusted providers, and historical weather averages. You can conveniently browse and track current weather conditions in the locations you care about most. You can pin all the locations on the Start screen as live tiles.
What's interesting about this app is the fact that you can easily plan your vacation. For example, you can check current weather condition for ski resorts or beaches. Whenever you feel like hitting the slopes, you'll get a detailed report about snow forecasts, ski trail maps, ski deals and news, web cams and 360 degree panoramas.
If you're concerned about how much 3G data your apps need in order to work, this is the right app for you. Weather! is a simplistic app that offers only basic information like the current state of the weather, the temperature with the minimum and the maximum of the day and a 5 day forecast. The app also has beautiful HD weather pictures, so the user experience won't be dull or unpleasant.
Again, like all the apps that we mentioned, Weather! has a live tile which will always keep you informed about the weather.
If you want to plan your day or you're wondering how should you get dressed or whether you should take an umbrella, you will certainly need a weather app for your Windows Phone. Even if you like a minimalistic user interface or you want all sorts of information with plenty of features, you'll surely find something that meets your needs. Let us know whether you enjoy the apps that we suggested, which is your favorite and why.
