“You can turn it on so that you can safely use your laptop or tablet while flying.”

Turning on Airplane Mode has no impact whatsoever on safety…

Ronny

“Airplane mode turns off any radio chips that might interfere with the airplane’s communication and navigation systems. As the name implies, this feature should be used when flying on an airplane.”

This is flat-out untrue. People fly and use their laptops every day. Where are you getting your information from?

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

Here I’m referring to tablets with SIM cards. Notice the word “tablet” in the title. In this article I put both laptops and tablets in the same boat.

If you have a tablet with a SIM card or a laptop with a 3G modem, they may interference with the instruments in the main cabin. Also, these devices won’t work when flying and you will only drain battery faster. Plus, cell phone use (this includes tablets with SIM cards or 3G modems) is currently banned by airlines.

Ronny

I’m afraid you’re gravely misinformed.
These devices never interfered with any communications on the plane. They operate on a completely different band, and it’s just a rumor that compounded and got larger and larger over the years.

In fact, just recently (within the past day or two), the FCC voted to remove all restrictions on in-flight cell usage. The current ban was simply proven to be based on nothing factual.

Cell phones don’t harm any instruments on a plane. Period.

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

OK. I am gravely misinformed and my article is bullshit. Happy now?

Ciprian Adrian Rusen

Removed the word “safely”.

Airplane mode is the very common thing in windows. Basically, in airplane mode, we cannot connect or call anyone. So there are various techniques to switched it on and off. So if anyone is interested can visit our site Netgear Genie support for further information

Two ‘lemons’ in a row here, Airplane mode is available on other OS’s.

What if I’m only using Bluetooth keyboard mouse and I’ve accidentally turned the airplane mode on.

Read this article till the end. It shows how to enable Bluetooth while keeping Airplane mode on.

Papadelta

The airplane mode button was not illuminated and didn’t allow me to select it. In settings the button was also not available. You did not cover these cases in your guide

Was just cutting/pasting pictures in Powerpoint, working fast I guess, then suddenly lost wifi and said laptop was in “Airplane mode”! Never knew Windows 10 had such a thing. First two methods did not work, but Settings/Control Panel method worked like a charm! Thanks so much, what a lifesaver.

Barry Tillotson

My airplane mode is locked on, I can’t disable it at all.

Tom

Wi-Fi mode will not turn off no matter what. WTF

Ralph

Just found the answer to stop Win 10 from forcing you to give personal info on Surface Pro 7. Before starting the OS, go to BIOS and disable the WiFi/Bluetooth, after you have finished initializing Win 10 with a Local Account you can them go back to the BIOS and turn it back on. Main rule of thumb for ALL new out of the box Win 10 systems of any kind, or newly imaged ones, MAKE SURE YOUR WiFi and NETWORK ARE ALL DISABLED BEFORE YOUR INITIALIZE THE PC. No matter how much it complains REFUSE to activate the network, just use “continue with limited functions” as this is actually the unlimited way to do it. The default will limit you to giving up personal info, so really they are lying when they say initializing with out a network is limiting when it is the other way around. Typical lies from MS.

The airplane button on my PC is gray and wouldn’t load when I try to turn it off from settings

Stuck in flight mode .no Wi-Fi (out of date driver??)

Make sure other stuff is connecting to Wi-Fi mobile phone etc.( I could still connect using a Ethernet cable) for internet T,V Wi-Fi printer etc. Now search and select system configurations then select service tag on top. Select enable all doing this sorted all my slow start up problems out and got flight mode operable again but still showing no Wi-Fi available so

Search in windows for services. I right clicked and clicked pin to task bar Then Click on the app then click on the general tag bottom This allows you to switch services on and off now Scroll down to Wlan auto configuration check you got the right one it explains what its dos in the extended tag bottom left right click gives you options to start or stop this service choose start and then right click now select properties then select start up type drop down and select automatic leaving this on manual means you will keep losing your Wi-Fi available networks now check on your internet globe Wi-Fi networks should now be showing but you will need to re-enter your Wi-Fi password make sure you have selected automatic start up or you will keep losing it when you shut down hopefully you can now shut down and start up Wi-Fi auto displays and connects with no problems this worked for me but it could be just another process depending on your problems. On mine it kept diagnosing driver but it was not also make sure your happy with your security settings
